Topic: A Big GRRRRR At Vodafone Posted: 13 March 2008 at 1:51pm |
Why is it i am the only one that buys a brand new 'broken' phone from them!
Why is it I have to pay $76 for them to look at it!!
Why didnt they just sell me a working phone from the beginning!
I bought my phone on 26th December, now i cant even write a text message without it freezing the screen going white and turns off, does this during phone calls, or just when i need to use it for something!
When it happens like 4 times during a phone call and hangs up on the person each time you just want to throw it!
Not to mention your in the middle of a 4page text and it turns off and you start again then it does it again!
I want to throttle them!

That sucks - I got given a vodafone for xmas 3 and a bit years ago, and it's still going strong. Rather surprised I haven't managed to lose it actually
Did the warranty just expire or something? (do they have warrantys? lol)

Have you still got the receipt? Surely it should still be under the manufacturers warranty. I've had a few dealings with them thru work, and from memory they are obligated to look at it for free, then if they find that it is a manufacturers fault they replace free of charge. BUT it has to be a phone made by the manufacturers.
Under the Consumers Guarantees Act they are obligated to repair or replace if found to be a phone fault and not user fault.

Yup iv got the warrenty everything, the reciept. Its never been dropped nothing. I know whats wrong with it. It needs the software reloaded. But they now charge $76 you get it back if its not a fault of your own, well if you can prove its not a fault of your own!

So where are they sending it off to?
You could send it yourself to Mobile Fone Repair up here in Auckland. Not sure what the deal is though for out of town repairs.

You are so not the only one. I had major issues with Vodafone I ended up leaving them for Telecom.

I got a Vodafone just before Xmas, it kept cutting out etc just like you!
Rang them they said go to the store where purchased, go to the store no take it to Mobile Fone Repair in Auckland...they were fantastic. Said it would take 5 - 7 days. As it is a work phone I had to pay 100 bond for a temp phone. They rang within 3 days and it was all fixed and got my 100 back! it was all repaired under warranty!
I hope you get it fixed without having to pay anything.

I had the same thing happen with my first Vodafone mobile. They were hopeless back then about getting it fixed too!
Took it in repeatedly and they kept telling me there was nothing wrong with it. In the end I convinced them to send it away and whaddaya know! It was faulty and needed the whole brain replaced!

are you on account or prepay? DH was on account and changed to telecom and got a $300 credit! Could be worth doing and getting a free phone out of it.

same thing happened to my new phone I bought November. kept going 'blank' and sort of having a 'vibrate'!(sounds exciting huh!
Same thing, unless I got it to Auckland (2hrs away) I had to pay a $74 bond.. and might not get it back.. I was SPEWING. and though of course they'll say i did something to it! BUT alas I got it back!!! YAY... and the bond.. and they had to renew something inside it? so it wasn't my fault! THANK goodness!!! ;)

Vodafone said i can take it to mobile repairs myself, but its here in christchurch and it will still cost me.
Im just sick of getting everything thats broken.
Now to make matters worse, i think it got stolen last night.
One of DFs mates were here and i had it sitting on the bed as i had just sent a text, and after he left, i cant find it. Iv turned the whole house upside down and iv tried ringing it and its off.

they charge that much cause too many people are getting it fixed and then not paying for it............you do get it back if they find out what is wrong.......there are a few phones i wouldnt touch in telecom or vodafone. Is it prepayed? if it has been stolen i would sort that out quick smart :) my mum has dropped her phone down the loo 2shehe but of course we dont tell them that......... they told me mine had been dropped.........now i think about it the faults that went wrong add up too a drop...........but mine ended up being the softwear too..........or baby sloppier in some cases :) and i (personnally) wouldnt ever go back to telecom for anything, i use my phone overseas on business and too many times telecom has stuffed us around, but i think its more what brand the phone is as well. good luck hope you find your phone

Ugh that sucks!
Vodafone are still after me for more than $900!!!! My phone was stolen WHILE I WAS OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY! They want me to pay because I hadn't realised it was stolen until I got the bill. So not cool!

That's STILL going on Jade?
I'm almost too frightened to say anything, but I feel I want to back up the company a little as I work there
It all depends who you take the phone to to get fixed.
Vodafone themselves only have 19 stores nationwide (I work for one of them). They have an agreement with MobileFone Repair that the minimum service fee is only $54 (from memory - it's been 10 weeks since I started my maternity leave). This is ONLY payable if the phone isn't covered by warranty.
If you take it to a dealership (First Mobile, Digital Mobile etc..of which there are hundereds) they charge the $74 straight up, regardless of whether it's covered by warranty. You SHOULD get this back upon pick-up of phone if it's covered by warranty.
Like it was said earlier, this is charged because too many people send their phones away and then not paying the service fee because their phone isn't covered and they don't want to proceed with the repair.
This is charged for by MobileFone Repair, not Vodafone (or Telecom, as they use the same service agent). Vodafone (and Telecom) makes no money from the repairs, they just act as the "middle man".
Depending on the store, you could've been offered a loan phone to use in the meantime. But that's TOTALLY store dependant (I know we do).
And it's the manufacturers that make the (sometimes faulty) phones, not VF or Telecom
OK. Rant over.
(Ducks for cover)
Still sucks that your phone is broken though

Yep. It quieted down for a while when the police were involved, but the phone is in my Dads name, and they're still wanting the money. It totally sucks, but at this point if they want to go to court it might be best.

Lol Charly,
Thats ok i was just really annoyed at the time as i really needed to text and it wouldnt bloody let me.
I took my phone into Vodafone in Chch. They said i can either give it to them and they willsend it to MobileFirst or i can drop it off, its down the road from me but either way i have to pay the $76. It sucks because we dont really have that money to give them for 2 weeks.. we dont have much left at the end and what we do have goes on Kylah, so i feel she would be missing out so that i can have a phone!
Grrr.

WOW seems I'm not the only one out there!!! I bought a vodafone phone in Dec, it screwed up just the same, took it to one store (after about 2 weeks) and they wouldn't replace it, said they had to send it away, took it to another branch of the same store and they replaced it!
Now just over a month of having the new one it stuffs up the same but now won't even turn on, not allowed a replacement and the store were asking for $55.00 to even send it away...boy was i spewing seeing as it is still under warranty.
I have found normally when things go wrong with them the techs always say its water damage even though you know full well it isn't! (family has just gone through this and after 6 months - 1year still havne't got their phone back from the repair place!!!!!)
Ended up having to pay the $55.00 to have my phone sent away to be fuxed, I BETTER get it back!!!! It is just a bond so that if there is something the customer has done to make it fault they take the money, if it is manufacturers fault you get your money back.
What sort of phone were yours that had this happen?
