I look after a little baby 3 days a week - we have a 12 week contract.
A few weeks ago she told me she was putting him into daycare earlier than planned, and she would still pay me as per the 12 week contract, but needed me for one day a week still (so I only have him one day a week - paid for three)
She emailed me saying she would like it to continue till the end of september, and that she would pay me for the other days only up until 10th august, then one day a week from then until september.
Today I have only been paid for one day a week (the one day a week started two weeks ago - so this is the first instance of being paid for work I wasnt technically doing)
Now I feel really stink about asking her about it - how do I ask her where the other money is, without coming across as money hungry and "not just for the children" IYKWIM.
I have rung my employer and they are going to find out whats going on, but said technically she didnt have to pay me if she gave me 2 weeks notice.
I know it comes across as cheeky asking for money for work I didnt do, but as my employer said the space could have been filled with another child in the meantime.
I think it's pretty cheeky to tell you they will pay you and then not do it - as your employer said you could have found another child for their place but you haven't so are missing out on income, so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect them to follow through on what they've promised.
I would have thought that your employer deals with payment issues and stuff for you? Can they contact the parent on your behalf and ask for the money?
Yeah im not sure, they said they would get back to me today. she said she hasnt recieved any change of contract from her or anything, even for the extension and the change to one day a week...
Just tell her, you have a contract she has to stick to. I would then stop looking after the child & get another more fulltime one in to make up the money.
Remember this is also a business to you & in to days times when it comes to money you have to be firm or you lose out.
DH pointed out that in the contract it says she has to let Porse know, which she hasnt done, so Im just going to leave it to them to sort out! I hate confronting people, im a bit of a wuss!
