My poor little Mercedes-baby had another allergic reaction today Once again I have no idea what caused it, except that maybe it was something on my hands. We had been out to the Fish Market for lunch but I gave my hands a good clean afterwards (yummy lobster mornay ) before I picked the babies up out of the pram and put them in the car.

When we got to the next stop I got them out to give them a bottle I noticed she had one hive on the side of her nose. I pointed it out to Willie and was thinking "eek, will have to be more careful" but then over the next 1/2 hour she slowly came out in more hives until she had about 1/2 a dozen big white weals with nasty red swollen patches around them

So I took her straight to the doc, where they observed her for an hour or so. Her oxygen sats were normal, and teh hives settled down but her eyes are still quite red and watery.

I feel like such a bad mother. And the hardest part is not knowing what caused it - the seafood, the cheese on the lobster or something completely random and environmental

Big hugs for you Emma. Hope that you manage to figure out what caused this reaction. Poor little Mercedes - sounds very unpleasant.

You're not a bad mother! It must be so difficult not knowing what happened to her.. poor little girl, but it's not your fault, you've been so cautious.

Ella had a rash which came up suddenly, like hives.. never found out what caused it but luckily it hasn't come back. I still take phenegyn (bad sp lol) with me on holidays as her face, legs and arms used to flare up.

Aww poor Mercedes! It must be so stressful for you Emma, but you can't blame yourself hun. As the others have said, you've been so careful to protect them. It must have been something else that caused it.

Hope she's back to normal and you have a great day today.

How scary, Emma.  Believe me, my heart goes out to you.  It seems so easy to underestimate the toll that a bad allergy takes on someone until it happens to your baby - then you find out how wretched the whole thing is and how you can worry yourself sick over it.  So   because you're doing a great job.

Awww thank you for making me feel better

Mercedes seems fine now, it wasn't even a 'severe' reaction in that she didn't have any breathing probs etc., it's more not knowing what caused it that freaks me out. And also knowing what a mission we had with Maya and her allergies and being unsure if I have the strength to go that road again...

Big hugs Ems, glad to hear Mercedes is ok. Poor thing what a shock alright. Sometimes just the fear of the unknown (unknown allergys in your case) is enough to drive ppl insane. Your a wonderful mum Ems, your 3gals are very lucky

Poor baby, and poor mummy! I feel for you -- big giant hugs. Please don't put yourself down, because you're such an amazing mummy and such an inspiration to many of us (like me!). Let us know how she gets on -- when do you come back? Tomorrow? You know, it could be that she's allergic to Australians...

Emma you will have the strenght as you have gone through it and made it through it.

I have only met you once in real life and you look like a really strong caring mother.

Really dont feel like you are a bad mother. We all have that moments that we feel bad and terrible and then I am sure we can come on here and everyone will tell us that we are not. And guess why? It is because it is TRUE.

Glad Mercedes feels better.
