Topic: Antagonist Protocol Posted: 24 September 2009 at 7:04pm |
Hi there,
I'm about to undergo a 2nd cycle of IVF age 41. My first cycle in Welly was microdose flare and I over stimulated and ended up with no eggs fertilising
On a recommendation I went to see SK in Auckland and he has suggested we try the antagonist protocol this time, which he says is good for older women and involves less drugs and hormones so less chance of over stimulating. I just wondered if anyone out there had tried this protocol and had any comments to make, or had undertaken a protocol with SK but through Wellington?? Is there anything I should know?
Thanks gals

Hi Lollypop, unfortunately I can't offer any advice at this stage, however I'm about to undergo my 2nd cycle when AF arrives (around 2 October) and they've said they're going to put me on a shorter cycle and use my hormones (or something)........ so I might be able to be of more help then if you haven't started!
Good luck with this cycle!!!

I can recommend the antagonist protocol. It is very quick. I had my first injection on Aug 1 and last on Aug 10. Got my BFP on Aug 28. That was my second IVF cycle. Anything else, just ask.

Thanks Tulips and congratulations, that's good news that we need to hear.
SK explained to me that it might result in fewer eggs than microdose flare, but the eggs should be of better quality. Did you find that?
Were you based in Auckland under SK? I'm in Welly so wondering how often I will need to go to FAA for scans etc before EC. Just trying to plan in my head.

I can only compare it to the long protocol. They can only ever get access to one of my ovaries and I still got 8 eggs doing the antagonist cycle. I'm with Repomed in Chch. I only had 3 days off work - scan, egg collection and embryo transfer. But everyone is different. All the best!

Tulips can I ask how they worked the drugs? I'm not sure of my plan yet, but he said something about starting on gonal-f on day 3 then doing some burserelin a couple of days after?? Is that similar to what you did?

I didn't use any Buserelin. Just Gonal F from Day 2, then Cetrotide as well from Day 7 onwards. I think the antagonist protocol is still relatively new. Even the nurses were getting confused.

Hiya, yep just had it confirmed today that they're putting me on the antagonist protocol here in ChCh. Hope they've got it a bit more sorted for me Tulips!! They haven't told me which drugs and when yet, but I have an appt Monday to pick them all up.
Gosh I can't wait but am really apprehensive this time round, and I can't help thinking this could be my last chance so I'm getting more and more nervous!! Grrr. Must de-stress. Go crystals, help me out!

Hi, just popping in. Have my second scan tomorrow, having had 3 follicles developing at scan on Friday. They were a really good size and round (i.e. 15x15, 13x13) which the 9 weren't last time. Three is the minimum follicles they will proceed with at Repromed so I am hoping that they are still growing when I go tomorrow. DH is coming with me again, as he seems to be my good luck, last round the scans he didn't go to were awful and when he was there they were ok!!
My antagonist cycle has been like Tulips, Gonal-F (300 for me) from Day 2, introduced Cetrotide from Day 7, scan Day 8, another scan Day 11 then ..........
It's been really great this time round and after getting over my caffeine withdrawl I've felt absolutely fine. I actually can't believe I'm close to collection and could be pg in the next week or so!!!
So crossing everything it's okay tomorrow and go from there. Will KUP!
Lollypops - have you started yet?

5 IVF/ICSI Cycles - 10 embryo's, 8 transfers, all BFN's.
Our journey to parenthood is over, and we join the unfortunate many for whom IVF does not work.
