Topic: Any inklings of an early labour? Posted: 08 September 2008 at 8:15pm |
Just curious to know, of those who have had babies born a little early...maybe slightly sooner than expected, how many of you "felt" it was going to happen?
Alyssa was born at 38 weeks which technically isn't early, but since she was my first everyone kept saying I would be overdue, so it was definitely unexpected when my waters broke.
For some reason I have had this nagging feeling since quite early on that this baby is going to come early as well...not necessarily thinking about her a very prem baby, but just that it will be before 40 weeks and maybe earlier than Alyssa was. As the days go by and I have little niggles etc, I wonder if I'll even make it through this week which is my last week of work. Baby isn't due for another 5 weeks.
So yeah, anyone experience just "knowing" it was going to happen?

Nope and I have been wondering this myself. My waters broke at 34w+6 with Spencer, I went into labour but it didn't progress, was kept in hospital and he was born at 38 weeks by elective c/s cos of being breech. Was all completely and totally out the blue, nothing to give me any hint that something was gonna happen, hung the washing out that morning and had a leak, saw midwife and was gonna go to hospital for a check up the next day (it was a sunday) but they broke completely that evening after I had started to have contractions. Didn't even know he was breech as midwife had told me his head had engaged and that is what caused the first leak, so that was a bit of a shock as well, dont' know if she had it wrong if he turned that day. As whilst on was on bedrest he had gone totally mental in there.
I had just assumed I would go over due like my mum and sis did with all theirs.
This time around I have been told could have a repeat as they dont' know what caused the rupture and also this baby is breech, which might not mean anything at this stage, but midwife is wondering if perhaps there is an underlying cause for both and said that they will be keeping a close eye on me.

I always thought DS would come early for some reason (well, in actual fact, I was scared he would because of a few issues I have that can lead to it). He tried to come at 26w but just before they were about to stop it, it stopped itself. Obviously wasn't going to happen, I don't know but it freaked me out.
Anyway, he was born at 40+3 so he hung in there a lot longer!

I "willed" Jake to come on his due date, lol, although I had 2 due dates, i "knew" he would come on the earlier one,a nd he did.
Charlotte, onteh other hand was 2 weeks late, and I was in labour off and on for about 4 or 5 days prior. Grrrrr Better not have those time keeping skills for life, lil missy.

I was pretty sure Ella was going to come on time, although even the midwife was telling me she was nowhere near ready. I went into labour the day before her due date and she was born early the next morning.
I was sure Benjy was going to be late (I think I mostly just wanted him to be because the IL's were going to be away then!) but he turned up a week early.
I had no inklings that he was ready at all but FIL reckons he knew when we saw him the night before,

I thought Hannah was going to be early - and she was, by a whole day
I hope you can get through this week. I know in my last couple of weeks at work I had lots of BH's and twinges etc. I was terrified she'd come while at work.
But as soon as I finished work at 37w things calmed down and were a lot more comfortable.

Hehe, well it sounds like I'm probably just imagining things then. I will be happy for bubs to stay put until closer to the time anyway, although am a little scared of how big she'll be. Daddy has a big melon

I thought Kryrssi was going to come early, even though my other two were only a day early. I didn't think she would be early originally but I started having niggles (light contractions that did nothing) a month before her due date and that was a bit freaky!! Apparently that can be a subsequent baby thing (especially 3+). Anyway in the end she came on her due date.

My midwife told me on the Wednesday (a week before I was due) that she didn't expect me to make my due date. By then Michaela had been engaged for weeks (my poor bladder ) and my bump had significantly dropped. I'd felt all along I'd be early and had been told the same by all and sundry so it didn't really come as a surprise when I went into labour on the Friday - 5 days early.

From early on in my pregnancy I just had this feeling that bubs might come early ... sure enough he turned up at 37+4. He was 2/5 engaged by 30 weeks and just kept moving down. Remember asking my midwife at about 35 weeks "How much lower can he go?" and she replied "Out" - freaked me out slightly!
Felt like I was in the early stages of labour for 2 weeks before he arrived - went to hospital for monitoring once but apparently was only braxton-hicks contractions .... I thought they were meant to be painless though?? My waters broke one morning and I gave birth at midnight.
