Has anyone got any tips on how to get a baby to take a bottle?? The first 2 times we gave Matthew a bottle of expressed milk he was fine - he took it no problems. That was about 2 months ago. The last couple of times we've tried to bottle-feed him recently he's just absolutely refused it. Won't even try sucking on it. Just screams as soon as you put the bottle in his mouth. He sucks on a dummy ok, but not the bottle. I'm going back to work in a couple of months, so want to get him used to the bottle for when I'm not there. I've tried warming the teat, getting other people to feed him & feeding him in different positions, but have had no luck so far. Any ideas??

hi nic, jack went through the same thing when he was matthew's age. would take a bottle fine, then one day it was as if he 'forgot' how to drink from one and refused it. after trying different teats, a sipper cup, feeding from other people one day he just took it again..from me.
i think it lasted a couple of months.
i'm sorry i'm not really any help at all!! hopefully some of the other ladies will have some words of wisdom...hang in there!

No real wisdom in my words other than perseverance. I think that's generally the only thing that works. Hannah did this too periodically and I just had to keep on trying! Eventually they seem to forget to rebel

Good luck!!

We had the same problem with Zac and had to try a few teats before he would take the bottle again. I found the Avent ones to big for his mouth so managed to find a Tefal one which is the same shape as the Avent but a lot smaller so fits better into his mouth.

Oh and another thing we found which may seem pretty obvious but wasn't to us for a wee while!!! Is he really hungry when you try the bottle? If Zac wasn't hungry that was when the screaming and crying would start but if he was hungry he would take the bottle.

My first born Josh was fully breast fed till 4 1/2 months so when I was putting him on the bottle he refused it and like your son just cried. In the end I found the best thing to do was lie him on a bed (couch.floor) and hold arms reach and put in his mouth. He would smell the milk on me and so would not give in so my mum would feed him and I would disaapear. It worked in the end but wasn't easy at all.
