Topic: Anyone grow fresh herbs? Posted: 30 November 2010 at 7:45pm |
I have a question for you
We're fairly new to this. So, when you are picking them do you pick the leaves off the stalk or should I pick the whole stalk? I guess what I am wondering is if new leaves will grow on an old stalk or whether the plant just grows a new stalk and leaves?

It dependson the herd. With mint or basil, I just grab leaves as I need them. With rosemary I pull off a twig.

I pluck leaves for basil, mint and coriander and just grab a handful for anything else. Make sure that you pick off any flower heads that develop to help it last longer.

It is dependant on the herb. Leaf ones you just take the leaves (basil, mint, coriander, oragano), chives you just cut the amount you need and with the stick like ones I take the sprig and cut it from that.

With parsley plants pull (don't cut) the leaves from the outside of the plant. They grow from the centre out.
