Wow lots to catch up on! Yay for all the boys and girls
We are having one boy and one... maybe a girl... the Dr was not quite sure...
Our next scan is 7.1.10 maybe he can tell then.
The main thing is that they were both healthy and fine and so am I. So am hoping I can work to 30 weeks (I work in an office mainly sitting!). But Dr said we'll see when he sees me next.
Wonder how long other people expecting twins were able to work?

I have two friends who have had twins. One of them worked till 32 weeks. Her twins were born by c section at 36 weeks (the dr took them out after they stopped growing in there). My other friend worked till almots 33 weeks. She was off for 2 days before her twins were born naturally at 33 weeks. They tried to stop the labour but couldn't.
So working till 30 weeks sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Thanks. The Dr said 30 weeks would be the max because of concerns or prem labour. The Dr seems nice but a very cautious sort of chap. He uses words like "here are your prodgeny" DH afterwards said who speaks like that!
My midwife suggested 30 weeks though.
Although I feel quite big already lots of people at work seem to think am not showing that much or that am just starting to show.
Is starting to get a bit insulting as while am not skinny at a size 14 I did actually have a waist before! I think maybe because they know its twins they are expecting me to be HUGE!

DH and I are so grateful to be having the child we started to think was never going to be possible we have no preference as to gender. We've had two scans in the last two weeks and we wouldn't have been able to establish gender anyway as baby just won't cooperate for the camera! We did manage to get one fluke face shot though.
I have to have another scan in four weeks so hopefully we'll get a decent look then.
Also, I finally felt my first kicks last night. Nothing at all like butterflies or bubbles, but really strong, almost like a pulsing sensation or muscle spasm. They kept waking me up overnight as well.

Beautiful picture Itchyfeet.
We are all so so so lucky to even be able to have a baby. I am really stoked just to be preggars!!
Girl/ boy- they all both gorgeous.
Annoying about the comments odettes!! If my family are anything to go by thats just not true! By big bros are mummies boys and their little families have loads to do with my parents- same with my sister and I- all about how you have been brought up I suppose!
What gets me at the moment is
"Oh look!!! You are growing!!" "Oh look. Your getting bigger each time I see you"
Do these people not think before they speak??? Uuuummm- I am pregnant- thats what happens when you are pregnant!
lol
Hanging out for a sleep in Sat morning! Had loads on this week!
Exciting that we are nearly half and half of boys and girls!

I, too, would be really pleased if this bub is another boy. Other people's perception that we would only be happy with a girl so 'have one of each' is really annoying me at the mo! A few rellies have made comments along those lines and I actually find them quite upsetting. Anyway that is digressing, so congrats again on your little boy |
God yes caro and odette. I had a similar reaction from DP family when they were told its a boy. That oh who is going to look after me when I'm old then and oh but I wanted to make butterflies - I was so guttered. How shallow and selfish. I am so over the moon and cant wait for my little man to come along, and the future we have ahead. Makes me realise how lucky I am to have a super supportive family who are just thrilled to have a new addition to cherish. We are so lucky for every day we have and even being pregnant - gosh you do just want to have a rant at people!
Anyway brighter note - super wicked day again!! Two loads of washing out this morning. Then off to TGA for a night away and dinner out - I have been looking forward to it all week.
Everyone have a good weekend

Jules, meant to say yesterday that do you know there is a twins thread on here? I think it is in the 'First Baby' section. There are bound to be lots of twin mums with heaps of experience to share with you.
Agreed OHanlon - yay for Friday!!

Morning everyone!
Really lovely sunny day in Welly, just wish it wasn't so bloody windy!! At least I've got a day off, but then next weeks on night shifts for a week boo
keep asking my boss if I can just do 1 shift at the mo instead of swapping all the time, but she is a total ****!!! Keeps saying 'pregnancy is not an illness... if you choose to work through it you can work like everyone else". Cow!
Never mind I am sooo never working in that place again after baby is born. I will take their maternity pay and never go back!
OK rant over lol!! I'm off on a mission to find some maternity togs, the togs I have now have more side boob hanging out its really obscene lol. And swimming is the only fitness stuff I can bear to do, so would rather do it without the girls on show teehee!
Wow, sorry for super long post. Sometimes you just have to get it out!

Had the most amazing meal with book club last night. We were going to go out for a meal, but Sally had just done the Ruth Pretty Christmas Cooking School. We all put in $30 each and everyone (but me) bought wine. Here's what we had...
Pass-arounds - Devils on horseback (prunes stuffed with cream cheese, cranberry and toasted almonds, wrapped in bacon). Roasted asparagus with white bean & roasted garlic dip
Starter - Terrine of proscuitto, mozarella, roasted tomatoes, basil and lasagne. Side salad with basil-infused olive oil
Main - Crown of lamb rack (imagine a 20 lamb racks, sewed into a circle), on a bed of pork and silverbeet, with sour-dough stuffing. Smashed roast potatoes. Warm marinated beetroot salad.
Peas with pancetta and shallots.
Dessert - Diplomat pudding (like a trifle with bavarian cream, sponge fingers, strawberries marinated in strawberry kirsch, and pistachios)
Honestly, I think I died and went to food heaven. Thank god for maternity clothes! Definitely doing the class next year.

owww just catching up on the goss (has been a few days since I was in here).
I hear you all on the whole gender thing, people love to comment don't they? Close friends of ours have a wee 7 month old girl and the father was gutted he didn't have a boy. Says openly that he was disappointed baby wasn't a boy, even though he loves his daughter he wished she was a boy. Shocks me!!
We're having a girl and I was dreading telling these friends as didn't want this guy doing the whole "oh poor you, never mind" to DH. In fairness he didn't do that but still makes comments about how it would be nice to have boys rather than girls and i just want to slap him ...
Should appreciate what you have and I kind of think that no matter what you end up with, it's human nature to wonder what it would be like if you had the opposite
Ahhh lovely day outside ... so dont want to be at work

Oh forgot to ask ... and kind of feel I should know this already but there aren't any more scheduled scans after the 19/20 week scan are there?
I'd quite like to get a 4d scan done... how much do they cost and where do you get them done and do they let you if you don't have any reason to get it done other than wanting to check in..?

Hey,
Pants: I just booked my 4D Scan in Auckland its in Mt. Eden and cost $50 you dont need a referral just the report of the 20 weeks scan.
It will be 18th. December I will be 25 weeks then and DH can come as we gonna visit his brother and do some Christmas Shopping at Sylvia Park .
Cant wait for him to see his Boy the first time .
Nice and warm here again and it wil be a quiet weekend for me DH is playing Rugby 7's but I'm not that into Rugby so stay home.
Out for some shopping now and hope I will find something to eat as I just wanna eat stuff u dont have here in NZ. I soooooo miss German food .

Nope there arent unless there is an indication that something is wrong, or something needed rechecking at the 20 weeks scan
Auckland Radiology on Dominion Rd Mt Eden does 4d scans, no referal needed, $50 and they recommend around 24-28 weeks I think.

Wow Bridget that sounds like quite a meal
We are going to have a 4D scan later on. I was was recommended to leave it to between 28-32 weeks so will probably book around that time. Not sure if you need a referal or not, I am going to ask when we have our scan on Monday.
Have been very domesticated and have a Dorset Apple Cake in the oven. Think it was you Bee, who said you had been baking and made me think how much I fancied a slice of cake!
