Topic: Are Teats and Bottles Standard Sizes Posted: 24 September 2009 at 9:44pm |
Hi, I don't know anything about bottles and teats (or babies or anything - I'm due first week of Dec ), and I've got 3 glass evenflo bottles, and I'm wondering if they can be used with other brand teats, in other words are different teats interchangeable with different brand bottles?
So I guess what I really want to know is can I use NUK Anti-Colic standard silicone teats, or do I have to stick with evenflo teats only?
Any help would be much appreciated - thanks

Umm not sure about that but the teats do come in different age groups. You could always try it.

There are different sizes - regular neck, wide neck and narrow neck teats. We have narrow neck teats that fit our Evenflo bottles (we have Pur, Evenflo and another brand of teats and they all fit the Evenflo bottles). We haven't tried our Avent bottles yet, but probably will soon, but will continue using the Evenflo teats - hopefully they fit, as far as I know Avent is narrow neck as well.

Thanks for the feedback - I really appreciated it.
I found that the NUK Anti-Colic standard silicone teats fit - yay. Only prob was I got the ones for formula instead of breast milk - oh well, I'm sure they will keep until if and when I switch.
Thanks again people

Is there a difference between formula and breast milk teats??? We use the same ones for both (the girls are on alternate breast milk and formula feeds)...

Well apparently with the NUK ones there is. The back of the package says for the 0-6 months - the pink package, they come in three different types small for breast milk and water, medium for formula and large for thicker feeds such as cereals.
To be honest it does clearly say on the front of the pack that it's medium, but I was focused on the bit that said 0-6 months, it wasn't until I got home and read the back properly that I'd realised I'd bought the wrong ones.
There's some great info on the NUK site. Hope this helps.

One thing- the Avent anti colic system- requires the Avent twisty bit too.... its a vent design thing- so it may fit other bottles, but may not work as well as intended iykwim.
The other thing is- I found I needed to experiment with different teats/bottles to find the right shape for Locks. He struggled with narrow neck and HATED the Tommee Tippee ones. The silicone varies in softness, shape etc. So be prepared to try a few different ones if it turns to custard- excuse the pun lol heheheheeee

Haven't read through the rest of this thread but based on what you've asked, I'm using those exact brands...so YES, glass evenflo bottle goes fine with NUK Anti-Colic teat. Bought the evenflo bottles and never used the evenflo teats.
Age wise can't comment for newborns, only bottlefed bubs from 7 months onwards...although he had the odd expressed feed from a bottle with the NUK teat and didn't seem to have problems...I think formula is a bit thicker than BM though.

I'd say the teats you have will be fine for breast milk as well as formula, it would only be a problem the other way around - ie: if you bought the slower flow one the formula would be too thick for it.
We fed the gremlins EBM and formula from the same bottles.
