Ok i am officially OVER being a mum to daycare kids.

Over the course of my 4.5 yrs doing nursing training i have had to take at least 2 - 3 days off each and every placement because one or both of the kids get sick. Because of this i am running short of my 1500 clinical hours requirement that i have to have met by the time i sit my state finals exam in 2 weeks time.

Now down to very last placement - which technically ended last friday. but since i am running short of the required hours i have to make them up.. so this week was supposed to have been the week to do that... so what happens? They get sick.

Paris got sick last thursday, doctors said was nothing but a cold.. mike took 2 days off work to look after her, surely that was enough to get over a cold, plus she had the weekend to recover if need be.. didn't happen, she got worse and worse and her cough was terrible - she has asthma but this was not it. sunday night we took her back cos i thought no way was this just a cold. Hello - full blown bronchitis. ARGH!,

So then at the same time we get ayja checked cos she was a bit sniffly. We walk out of the doctors/chemist close to $30 later with a barrage of various chemicals for me to pump into my kids.

I took monday off to look after them both cos mike has used up all his sick days. He took yesterday off so i could at least work 1 day. I took today off cos Ayja is still a complete mess - Paris has gone back to daycare.. still a bit of a cough but antibiotics are working and she was going awol sitting in these 4 walls.

And now, here i am typing this, with a headache coming on, runny nose starting and i can tell that there is probably no way i am going to work tomorrow. which leaves me with 4 days of work still to do, and only next week to do it.. which was supposed to be my SERIOUS SWATTING week for state exams.

Can anyone say STRESSSSSSSSS!!!!

ugh Janine sounds like you have had a horrible week!
Maybe a long hot bath to unwind ey? I can sympathise with being stressed before exams, I remember when I was writing mine how stressful it was and I didnt even have any kids to deal with! GOOD LUCK!

is state that close? I hope my sis is studying

Good luck with your state though Janine, I am sure you will be fine. I am curious, is it something that you can resit if necessary? I know you need it to get a job, but what happens if you do fail?

In Japan, for luck we used to buy these big dolls called Darumas. They were round and had two blank eyes. You colour one in while wishing to, in your case, pass your exams, and then colour the other one in when you pass. Now, my girlfriend got one for her dentistry exam and it worked. So will draw one for you and hopefully it will work. I'm superstitious at times.
Here's hoping Ayja gets better too.
Also, now, I don't know how into home remedies you are, and I've never tried this myself...but a friend of a friend swear by it! When you feel a cold coming on, take a peeled clove of garlic and put it up your butt. I'm serious! She reckons her kids never get colds, but I think it may be their mother approaching them with garlic leads them to say "no, no cold, am fine".

anyway, enough of all that. Go0od luck Janine!

In answer to your question Sarah beth, states IS that close - but depends - if you sis is with the mid-year intake she'll sit it in a week and a half - if she started 3rd year in feb this year she won't sit states til november. You can resit it if you fail but it means waiting till november for me - which isn't an option.. that would mean finding a general fill in job until then.. i mean i am a qualified nanny - but who wants a nanny for 6 months. lol.

anyways - am not gonna fail.

I hope you feel better soon Janine, it's even harder having sick kids when you are sick yourself. And I would say good luck for your exams, but you don't need it, you'll fly thru!

you are right, you are not going to fail. And I am sure nursing your kids back to health has got to help with knowledge!

lol no i think it has made me more pushy cos i can see the signs and KNEW that it was not just a cold. argh. but hey, the doctors that we go to don't actually KNOW that i know these things - so probably just think i am a maniac. have thought of telling them but kinda don't wanna. Our actual proper GP knows and usually he's always like, "well, what do YOU think it is?" which is nice, but not what I go to see him for. lol
