Topic: Baby engaged? Posted: 22 October 2010 at 8:42pm |
How can you tell if the baby has engaged? DS was breech and never engaged so I'm not sure.
In the last couple of days I have needed to pee even more than usual, and it feels like there is a lot of pressure down really low.

When bubs engaged, I felt a sudden change in my pelvis. Generally, it's a combination of waddle + peeing more + breathing being a bit easier (haven't found that) + feeling more heavy in the pelvis.

I had a 'general ache' down there esp in my thighs and a lot of pressure on my hips. I also felt like I had to support the bottom of my bump or she'd fall out but - definite waddle. I never had to pee more whilst pregnant though. Easier to breathe a bit too.

I got told by my midwife fairly early on (about 37 wks I think? memory is hazy) that DS had engaged, but I never felt anything different. I always seemed to need to pee a lot through most of my pregnancy!

DS was engaged at 35 weeks but I never noticed any changes. He carried quite low from the start of the pregnancy, so perhaps thats why I didnt notice anything different.

also, second babies often don't engage until right before labour.
But yeah usually feeling like you can breathe a bit easier

I thought this too, but apparently if your first baby was breech and never engaged, then the second baby usually behaves more like a first baby and will engage early.
I think baby must be engaged, today my pelvis feels so heavy and full, and achey. And when I sit down it feels like the babys head is pressing right on my cervix.

sounds like baby could definetly be engaged or engaging then
Yeah, its not always the case, just like they say 2nd births are often easier (often, not always) but if the 2nd baby has a different father to the first, it can make it seem like a first labour again ...all very confusing !

After my specialist appointment the other day I got told baby was starting to engage, and lately I have been feeling very sore in the pelvis, very achey like I did a marathon workout or rode a bike or something, and have been waddling a lot more, sitting with legs way apart, peeing even more if that's possible, and just feeling that pressure like you mention.
So I'd say it's quite possibly that :)
ETA baby has gotten a lot lower and sometimes when I sit up too fast it feels all constricted, like he's a bit lower and I'm bending in to him if that makes sense. I find it very hard to sit up from lying down in bed
