Topic: baby shower games please Posted: 20 October 2006 at 7:38pm |
Ok I need help. Im giving my friend a baby shower next weekend and I have no idea what games to play apart from the normal tasting baby food, and baby items memory. Its a quiet afternoon tea with just a few little ice breaker games but I have no idea what games there are. I didnt have any at my baby shower (as requested by me) so Im a bit lost. What did you ladies have? Also and this may sound like an odd question but do you still provide wine/alcohol even though the star of the party cant drink or is that just mean? I know most of the other ladies are the type that would have a wine with thier lunch etc when they go out.

I think you can still have wine there - but check with the mumtobe first to make sure she is ok with it.
Games:
- Guess mum's weight (if she is happy to do it)
- Get string and guess how big mum's tummy is
- How many songs can you think of with the word "baby" in the title

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I think wine is ok but like Mummybecks said check with your friend.
Another game is getting people to bring a baby photo and then trying to match them to the people there.
Have fun organising it.

I looked up on the internet, try googling baby shower games and see what you come up with. We played guess the size of the mum to be's tummy, you get a piece of string each and wrap it around you, and hold it out to estimate how big the tummy is. Then the mum-2-be measures hers to see who got the closest.
We also played a game where two people hold a piece of string out across the room, and you put pegs on it. You have to try and take the pegs off in one hand, with the other behind your back.. meant to imply that you'll be doing lots of washing with a baby on one hip when you're a mum lol.

We did the string on at my baby shower...I'm still not sure I should be talking to one of the cousins whose piece of string was twice the length of my actual belly measurement!!
That was a really fun one to do though!

I did a baby shower for my best friend last weekend. We played the baby food game (hilarious to see the looks on people's faces!) and the baby items memory game, and they were both hits. We also played pin the nappy on the baby -- I enlarged a photo of a baby at Warehouse Stationery, then photocopied a clip-art picture of a nappy and did the blindfold thing, then they "pinned" the nappy on with double-sided sellotape. The "nappy" also doubled as the guests' nametags (so it was easy to see who got closest to the target, etc.). We also played the clothes peg game -- when everyone comes into the shower, give each of them a clothes peg. If someone catches you saying the word "baby", they can take your peg. If you catch someone saying it, you take their peg. Person with the most pegs after a designated period of time wins a prize... It was great fun trying to trick people into saying "baby"!
I'm going to write an article for the site about throwing a baby shower, so keep those game ideas coming!

Thanks everyone. Ive done a few searches on baby shower games but wanted some ideas on what has been a hit at baby showers everyone has been to.
That peg one sounds good, that would be hard not saying baby at a babyshower!

LOL the peg one was funny. People were saying "infant", "wee one", "little one", "child" and everything else they could think of. It was a great ice-breaker because it got people talking right away -- they were all trying to catch each other out right from the start!
Another one I've seen done, which I personally can't stand but a lot of people love, is the Dirty Nappy game. You get five different chocolate bars and five nappies. Melt the chocolate bars a bit in the microwave and scrape them into the nappies (one in each nappy). People have to guess what chocolate bar is in each "dirty nappy". Looks disgusting but people seem to love it!
At my baby shower, we did a variation on the Piece of String game and used toilet paper -- people had to rip off the number of squares they thought corresponded to the measurement around Mum's waist. I think I was 11 squares around... LOL.
Have fun!!!
