Hi - Our little one had eczema as well we tried many things what worked for us is, baby oil in the bath water and then we used aquaderm cream by essenchi after the bath and with most nappy changes (until under control)and then just after the bath. We also got some hydrocotisone from the doc but only to get it under control and now we only use when he gets flare ups. Here is a link to the cream we used LINK LINK
The other thing it could be is a reaction to an allergy, dairy or egg?? Just a thought.
Hope you can get on top of it soon.

My friends little boy has an eczema on his chest neck area & has got emollient cream from the Dr & that has worked reducing it. Dr's also don't tend to give out aqueous cream any more as babies have been reacting to it.
Apparently it's a common thing with babies getting on their chests.

Yeah the aqueous cream isn't recommended by all - but it does make a good shaving cream (if you have a huge tub to use)

I would go to your GP. They can prescribe something better than aqueous cream, We got Cetamocrogol cream, a massive tub of it!. It has worked wonders with DDs skin. It is a really thick fatty cream.
It turned out that DD had an intolerance to dairy, only really discovered at 12 months when I stopped BFing and tried her on cows milk. Since I have eliminated dairy from her diet her skin has hardly flared up at all. May be worth looking into.

Thanks everyone I ended up taking him to the doc as it got really bad yesterday afternoon and he gave me ssome emulsifying cream and hyrdrocortine. This was the second trip to the doc, the first time she gave me aqueus cream and he had a really bad reaction! The hydrocortizine worked really well and today it had settled down really well - yay :) I might look into getting that aquaderm cream as well as other people have told me it's great too!

Agree with looking at food intollerance. I didn't realise my girl's eczema was caused by wheat until she was well into eating solids and I realised she flared up after wheatbix. We both stopped eating wheat (I was BFing) and it went away completely within days. She is 3 now and can eat anything with no reaction :)
If you're breastfeeding perhaps you could try not eating wheat and dairy for 2 weeks and then introducing one back, seeing if she reacts, then the other?
Also, I found that if we bathed her often (no matter what products we used, often no bath products at all) then her eczema would flare up due to her skin getting dry (we used all sorts of moisturisers), but if we bathed her every 2nd or 3rd day her skin stayed nice with her natural baby oils.
ETA; we also changed from Surf Sensitive washing powder to Amolin and that helped. I don't think you can get Amolin any more, we use Ecostore liquid now.

My little one also has eczema (she's 3 1/2mths). We've been using the 'fatty cream' from the Dr for a bout a week now with no difference. My hubby has just ordered something called 'Pot of Gold' which apparently works wonders!! Have just started using it today so we'll see.
We use Amolin for our clothes (you can still get it from Countdown) and a tip I received was to put everything through a second rinse cycle. Guess time will tell if any of this actually works!!

Would be interested to see if the 'pot of gold' cream works! I'm formula feeding so a little hard..I could put him onto a soy formula but I don't think it's recommended for under 6 month olds and I don't know if that is even the problem! It got better on Sunday but has flared up again now :(

If you think it is an intolerance/allergy you should talk to your GP. You may be able to get pepti-junior or neocate on prescription which are hypo-allergenic formulas.
I dont know how you go about testing a little bubba. I went through cows milk, normal formula, goats milk formula and soy formula for my 12 month old the pepti junoir and finally neocate on prescription. You may have to go through a pediatrician when they are so young...
Also you can ring Nutricia (formula people) and talk to someone about Neocate or they can send you samples of other formulas. Got large (well retail size) tin of soy formula sent out free!
best of luck... I feel I went through a pharmacy of creams before I got it sorted!

Also I find it this heat it gets bad, so make sure that you are only putting natural fibres on her and giving her lots of breathing time, we find pinetarsol which you can get on prescription helps keep in the oils and helps with itching.

Hey not sure where you are in Auckland but there is a dr in Mt Wellington who is really awesome with excema. I took my little boy there, and a number of other babies from my coffee group went to him, and their excema has all cleared up. His name is Dr Joe Williams, just google him and you will find heaps of info. He only takes walk-ins, so you will end up waiting (I had to wait for over and hour) but it was well worth it.

we had an eczema baby too. she developed it around 9 mths and it lasted all winter, and is now coming back a little unfortunately. We tried a whole bunch of things, and what worked for us was:
hydrocortisone of course, except we disliked using it too much and would only use it when a patch got bad.
No soap - used a goat's milk soap, Bille Goat Baby which is an australian product developed by a mum whose kids had eczema.
Pinetarsol helps to reduce redness & general irritation, but didn't do much when things were bad
Derma cream, which is a medical manuka honey-based cream from Comvita - really good at dealing to milder patches that didn't warrant hydroC, and a good general moisturiser and soother.
Like others have said, natural fabrics and not letting them get too hot - we discovered she was overheating in her core, and while others would be surprised and a bit disapproving at the relatively few layers she had on over winter, we knew she was warm enough and that it kept her rashes down.
Be careful of baths that are too hot, and fires or heaters as they can dry skin out a lot.
There is a branch on here for allergies, intolerances and eczema too, might be worth having a dig around there.
We tried a lot of the things mentioned above, and didn't have much luck with them TBH.

After 3 year of really bad eczema and DD NEVER having slept through the night, someone stopped me in the street and recommended Dermol.
After 4 days DD eczema has gone completely AND she is sleeping through the night!!
It is a strong steroid but 4 days of that has to be better that 3 years of mild ones.
Everyone I have come across had had excellent results. Then it's just a matter of keeping the skin moisturised, we also use pinetarsol-they do a bath oil which is expensive but good.
