Topic: Babymoons Posted: 13 December 2008 at 7:45pm |
Is anyone thinking of having a babymoon (i.e. a last holiday together before the new baby arrives). When and where are you going?
DH and I are looking at taking Michaela to a bach in Nelson at Easter next year (when I'm about 6 1/2 months preg).

We didn't really do a babymoon when I was pregnant, although we did go and spend a week at my sister's in Queenstown when I was 18 weeks. (In case you were wondering, tramping at 18 weeks pregnant is a bad idea!)
We deliberately went to Fiji for a last special holiday as a couple when we were just starting TTC - we both rather romantically hoped bubs would be conceived over there but it wasn't the way my cycle worked! Absolutely loved it and planning to go back to the same resort as soon as we can.
The bach holiday in Nelson sounds lovely

I doubt a babymoon would fit into the budget. Although we do spend some time up at the family bach so I suppose that could count.

I would love to but don't have any leave booked until I go on maternity leave which by then I will be too pregnant to fly! I'm gutted because our good friends are getting married on Stradmore Island in Aussie which is meant to be gorgeous but I will be 34-35 wks so can't go!!
So we might head up Coromandel somewhere for a few days though or maybe to Waiheke Island because I've never been there.

I love Waiheke Island. DH and I went there for a week the Christmas/New years before we started TTCing Michaela. We stayed at the Island Breeze which is a wee self-contained flat within walking distance of everything.
I'm very tempted to go back to Waiheke but I figure a trip to Nelson is a lot more affordable for us (travelling from Wgtn) than one to Waiheke.

your allowed to fly domestic and aussie until 36 weeks if you have no complications :) i can remember which company, quantis maybe? so maybe you should reconsider that holiday
my friends family is from motueka down nelson ways and we go every year at new years to play in the river and soak up the sun, both him and HD are working this year so we are going to fly down end of jan before i have to be back at uni :) cant wait

We're going to Melbourne for the weekend in March, it will be our 1st wedding anniversary, we didn't have a honeymoon and we'll be TTC when we return.
Friends of ours are moving over there in January so will be great so see how they are getting on and do some shopping.

We are going to queenstown towards the end of february for BIL wedding and then 2 weeks later we are taking a long weekend early march and going up north.
Nelson sounds nice.

Ooh yup DH and I have just booked half of our last pre-baby holiday from Dec 27th! We're spending a night in Taupo, a night in Rotorua, a night in Hamilton (that's the half we've booked so far), then we'll probably spend a couple of nights in the Coromandel somewhere (and be there for New Years) then head home. Can't wait!!
Then I'm off to Melbourne 3 weeks *after* my EDD as one of my best friends is getting married. Could be a bit of a mission with a newborn but at least my mum is going too! (have booked the cancellation insurance though just in case)

We did that when I was 6 months pregnant. Jess and I packed up and went to Rippon in Wanaka for a few days :) For those that don't know Rippon is a huge one day NZ music festival on Lake Wanaka that happens once every 2 years :) Beautiful spot! Was such an awesome time :)
Got some funny looks out dancing in the sun with my huge belly lol! Have decided to make it a family thing. Every second year we'll take the girls to Rippon. You always see a lot of Mums to be and familys with little ones there.

First time around we did lots of mini-vacations, both road trips and by plane.
This time around we went to Auckland for a weekend when I was 6 months prego (I also did the Sky Walk) and then the following week we went to Rarotonga for 10 days.

We went on our last big overseas trip to the US when we were TTC, and to the Gold Coast when i was about 22 weeks. Am now thinking we should have done a few more weekends away etc.

We're driving from auckland to Wellington, getting the ferry and going to Nelson for three days, jumping back on the ferry and doing a wondering trip back to Auckland via Napier/Hawkes Bay and maybe Gisborne type areas - all with my in-laws I'm really looking forward to it actually (I think baby is infusing me with happy hormones today, I just feel giddy!)

I think it's a good idea your not going to have the chance again for ages. I wish I could but we're getting married in 6 weeks so finances are tight. Go somewhere just the 2 of you where you can relax and have some time alone
