Topic: Babys heartbeat - just for fun Posted: 24 January 2009 at 9:13am |
My neighbour said she could tell what sex my baby was from it's heartbeat, so I googled and found out the following (old wive's tale of course!)
Babys heartbeat is usually be between 120-160 bpm. If in the lower 20 it's a boy, if in the higher 20 it's a girl.
My obs told me the other day that my baby's heart is beating at 140 bpm - so still none the wiser!! *lol*
Was this heartbeat myth true for any of you?

This pregnancy the heartbeat has been around 140....so thought it was a boy. And scan showed he is!
Going for another scan on Tuesday and I'll double check it hasn't fallen off.

no it's just that......a myth
jack and charli's heartrates were basically the same the whole way through pregnancy. usually 140-145...the lowest they both got was 124 and the highest was 156, but they were just a once off ......funny thing is they were both about the same in wks when they had the high reading and low reading! lol

My friend just had her baby boy (they didnt know) and his heart rates where up around 160..... LOL.
I had heard it the other way round too, if its low its a girl and high its a boy. Thats the problem with those old wives tales, it ends up like chinese whispers and your not sure what it should be anymore.
Mine is a bit too hard to work out it has varied lol. From 156bmp to 136 bmp, just doesn want us to guess the cheeky thing.
All I do know is that when I do the old ring test is spins around in big circles quite fast! Unfortunately no-one can agree if circles are boy or girl!!!!

It has been true for me - 150-160 for all of my readings, all pregnancies.

My mw believes higher heartbeats are usually girls. But looking through my records it's varied quite a bit. Lowest reading was 126 (only once), but then had quite a couple of higher readings 150-160, and of course to confuse things, we had a few around 140.
Mw also told me, like with adults, if HB is checked when they're asleep the readings will be lower and less varied. Whereas when they're moving around at the time of HB checking the readings will be higher.
(BTW we're having a girl)

I saw a TV programme testing this a month or so ago, and its definitely a myth! The heart rate was "right" for about half the pregnancies, so completely due to chance.

Not really right for me, although his heart rate isn't really consistent with each visit. At one it was about 150, another 130-140, another 130-150, and another 140-150. Would've kept us guessing if we weren't finding out! My aunty thought we were having a girl because of the heart rate but she was wrong. I know of someone else having a girl and her heart rate is consistenly around 130.
So based on my experience I haven't been able to find much truth in it!

doing the old wives tales pregnancy tests is fun , apparently cos my pillow faces north , and the hair on my legs is growing faster than before , im having a girl ....so , does that mean if I start waxing instead and turn my pillow so it faces south , it will change to a boy ??

I recorded mine on my cellphone for DP to listen to cos he missed the appt, then I played it back for a friend who told me it was slower than both her boys had been, even tho mine is most definitely a girl!
