Topic: Back molars?     Posted: 30 September 2010 at 2:00pm |

Campbell seems to showing a lot of teething signs at the moment - grumpy at night, nappy rash, a bit of dribbling - but all his teeth are through except for the back molars. I thought it was most common for these to come through closer to 2 years old?
I can't get him to let me look into the back of his mouth, any tips? I've been tipping him backwards - he loves this! - and can't see anything up the top, but can't see the bottom jaw.

Its completely possible something else is causing the grumpiness and rash (maybe a food intolerance), but I guess I was wondering if anyone has had kids with their back molars coming through early.

Gabrielle has got all four of her back molars. She got the bottom two first about 3 months ago and the top ones came through about a month ago. She has all 20 teeth now (yay, teething is all over)! If it looks like teething it probably is teething, she got the dribble rash and runny/yucky bum on and off for a while before I saw anything in her mouth but if I poked around back there (quite hard to do ) I could feel lumps under her gums. She was chewing on everything she could get her hands on too. I think she started chewing her fingers actually from memory.

Thanks Shelt, that's good to know! I'm too scared to put my fingers right into his mouth, I know he'll bite!
Today he's been chewing on his fingers too, and putting them right in there at the back of his mouth, so I think they are at least moving around. Damn, I thought I was going to get a break from teething! At least it may be all over sooner than I thought, though!

I'm getting the same Whitewave - he's always been an early teether. Can't see anything yet, but I'm sure they are there.

Good to know, kandk! Funny thing is, Campbell has never been an early teether before now!

Sounds like they're moving around back there. Emily's back molars did that for months before they finally started breaking through as soon as turned 2. And bang, one after the other, they showed, all within a couple of months. Man it was hell (sorry! not very helpful I know)

Been wondering the same thing, my DD is similar age and has had her hands down the back of her mouth on/off for a few months so I guess it's the 2yr molars moving around. I heard they took ages to come through so am expecting it to continue for awhile but I'm more than happy for them to come through so we can be done with teething once and for all!
