Topic: Before I was a Mum... Posted: 12 January 2006 at 1:03pm |
My MIL just forwarded this to me and I thought it was lovely and wanted to share...
Before I was a Mom... I slept as late as I wanted and never worried about how late I got into bed.
I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.
Before I was a Mom...
I cleaned my house each day.
I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.
Before I was a Mom...I had never been puked on.
Pooped on. Spit on.
Chewed on.
Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.
I slept all night.
Before I was a Mom...
I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests.
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.
Before I was a Mom...
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put it down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.
Before I was a Mom...
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.
Before I was a Mom...
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.
And before I was a Grandma...
I didn't know that all those "Mom" feelings more than doubled!

Almost makes me look forward to being a grandmother. Though let's hope that that's quite a way in the future.
(Considering I have decided Hannah will have an arranged marriage, I'm sure I can dictate how old she will be too)

When i read it, i was thinking, i didn't sdo half those things actually. I never really cleaned the house until Jake was born. Lewis has a ton of boy toys i tripped over. Now he puts them up so Jake doesn't make anymore overseas calls.
the other stuff cool though. I'm just picky

Big lump in my throat here. I really love that and would like to write it out and put it in a memory book I have for my daughter if that's OK? I'm keeping all of this stuff together in a big memory box (like a timecapsule) and will give it to our daughter when she turns 21.
Funny I should read through something like that because yesterday, I was watching our daughter while she was having her afternoon nap and was just daydreaming and my partner came up behind me and said "yes, you can be proud of yourself. Look at what you made". I thought that was really sweet and said to him "you helped too, but I just did most of it!" LOL.

it's nice when partners/hubbys say something like that isn't it! Peter always seems to say things like that just when I need to hear them.
Sounds like a nice idea to keep a memory box, it will be HUGE by the time your daughter is 21, LOL

I need to buy a box for a memory box lol, I have a few things to put in it such as ultrasound scans, videos, a book with messages from friends and family from my baby shower (before Ella was born) and then again on her first bday.. and tiny newborn clothes etc etc

I just went to Spotlight and bought a big hat box - you know those recycled cardboard ones, then bought heaps of paint and glitter etc. and painted fish and waves and water and glitter all over it. It's pretty full already by the time you add in the NZ Herald from the day she was born, all the cards she was given when she was born and her 1st birthday etc. It certainly doesn't take much. I think first off you are so proud that you keep just about EVERYTHING, but as they get older, I think you tend to keep less and less - only the real important stuff.
