Im 5 days away from my due date and my midwife wants to know if i want to be induced in the morning (7.30am) or the evening (7.30pm) just in case i go over my due date - as she has to book it in advance. I have no idea which is better or why i would choose one over the other (apart from the sleep factor with the evening one). Also, would i have to stay in hospital after she inserts the gel or would i be able to go home?

I'm not sure about whether or not you are allowed to go home but I think at Nelson hospital if you have to stay over night after being induced then partners aren't allowed to stay with you. They phone your partner when labour is going good n hard. So perhaps check with your MW if that's the rule where you are. Oh, and also you have to share a room (at Nelson)
I know I would not sleep well by myself just waiting for things to begin!

I would go morning as chances are you will have the baby by the end of the day adn then you can have a sleep that night so doesn't muck things up, if you get what I mean.

I was induced at 8 am and had my wee man at 6.50pm - transferred to the other hospital and had a great nights sleep with a couple of wake ups to feed bubs.

I wasn't allowed home after the gel was put in but that was because my labour was established quickly my SIL and another friend were both allowed home for about 4-5 hours.

I'd go morning. I was induced with Chiara at 7am and it meant after the gel was in I could go and walk around the hospital and down to the domain etc. to help get things going. I've heard from friends that if you have an evening slot they put the gel in then you are supposed to go to bed a couple of hours later which doesn't help start things off!

Yea the morning sounds like a better idea, you'll be hopefully more ready for a day's work than in the evening. I actually thought all inductions were done in the morning lol

Both of mine were morning inductions, and they were great. Even thou Andrew was finially born at 1am the next morning it was still fine.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I'd go for morning. I had the tape put in at about 11am, waters broke at 130pm but by 7pm it had all petered out and i was told to try and rest and dh was sent home. spent the night in hospital feeling sorry for myself, lonely and desperately missing dh! our pre labour rooms are single so at least i had privacy. anyway, next morn had the drip put in at 930am and Lily arrived at 1253pm - 3 1/2 hrs later. Couldnt leave the hospital grounds the first day and once on the drip couldnt go far at all.

I say morning too. I was induced around 9am, and Ashlee was born via CS at 6pm. She had a pretty good sleep that night (and never got confused with daytime and nighttime!).

I haven't been induced but reading what the others have said, I agree with a morning induction, given the choice!

I had the gel and waters broken at 6pm and then syntocin dripo at midnight - defieintely go for the morning one!! I found the first week really hard after because I had no sleep for about 36hrs and that is the worst thing with a new baby...

Morning!!

Go morning. I was induced in the morning, it meant DH could stay all day with me. Baby didn't arrive til 4 days later which is another story, but odds are, yours will make an appearance much earlier than that. It's great to have your DH (or other support people) around and to have the emotional support. DH had to go home each night which I hated .

I've been induced one way or the other with all 6 of my pregnancies and they have been a mixture of mornings and evenings, I only had 1 time of gel inserted at night and I had to lie down for about 30mins then I was able to walk around, got my waters borken the nxt morning about 10am & had bubs about 11.30am. It will really depend on how your going to be induced and if your cervix is favourable. Discuss it with your MW, either way bubs is gonna come out and you'll be tired regardless. Best of luck hun Take Care

I hope I dont need to be induced, I wouldnt want the hospital kicking DH out, he is my rock I will turn to a mess without him. I want to be at home with DH to keep me calm. But you never know what can happen.

If I do need to be induced I would pick morning.

I think its rude they kick your partners out even when you have a private room. Its not like your in intenvise care.

When I as induced in the morning and nothing had happened. They gave DH a rollaway bed to sleep on in the delivery room. We were all set to sleep at 8.30pm but my waters broke and that was it for sleeping that night. Once I had Andrew (at 1am) we were moved up to the post natal ward at 4am and that is when DH went home, and back again early the next morning.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I was given the syn drip at about 10pm and had baby at midday. Didn't sleep at all, and had been awake the prevs 24 hours due to contractions. Would definately go for the morning option if it were me!
