Topic: Belly Dropping?     Posted: 10 January 2009 at 10:24am |

   Hi Ladies,

Does this ALWAYS happen before bubs arrives? Our girl is engaged and i'm sitting really high still. All the old fogies say she'll drop before she comes out but is this just another old wives tale or does it happen every time?

I have popped out at the bottom a bit but I think that's because she has changed position.

No there is no hard an fast rules about dropping.

My son born (oct 07) was down about 3 weeks before he came, over night he would be right down in my pelvis, I would wake up in the morn and have a somewhat faltish stomach, but as soon as I moved around he wriggled out of there and was all out in front again.

The day my waters broke, I saw my mid wife and he wasnt engaged at all .

   Thought as much.

My grandma tried to tell me that she would drop and I would see my belly change and that she would go to sleep for three days before the birth and I wouldn't feel her moving. That didn't sound right as I would be VERY worried if I didn't feel her move for three whole days!

 Getting really impatient now.......

hehe old wives tales. Daniel slowed down his movement alot in the last week leading up to his arrival (he came at 39 weeks). I had to try and get that 10 movements a day and twice I didn't and had to be monitored. Guess he was resting up for the big show but not all bubs do that

Is that just a check for the heart beat or do you have to go to hosp for proper monitoring?

I'm struggling to feel her much at all at the moment. Had MW on Tues and she'd already been quiet for about 3 days and the heart beat was really strong.

Nah I went up to the hospital to monitor movements and heartrate for at least 30 mins. It was quite cool. It showed he was moving about but I just couldn't feel it. It also shows if you are having contractions. I had a couple of tiny ones I put down to gas but were tiny contractions.

It definitely doesn't always happen before labour. I remember waiting for my belly to drop - it finally happened, but not till I was pushing him out!

People were constantly telling me that my belly hadn't dropped. I think baby was actually well engaged for quite a while before, but just wasn't really showing? Apparently I had strong abs, because the mw couldn't even work out whether baby was head down or breech! So I think 'dropping' is all in the eye of the beholder... babies don't read the textbook!

Before I had Arianne, I was still really high, she had only lightly dropped, I had her 2 days early, she didnt have a chance to drop. Oh and she wasnt engaged either, prob why the labour took so long.

My mum kept saying that aswell that she will drop before birth and that she will be late, hahaha nope both wrong.
