Topic: Benediction Question Posted: 28 April 2008 at 5:55pm |
On Friday at one of the ANZAC services I had to play at we had quite a relgious benediction. One of the boys in the band (that goes to a local relgious school) got up just before the benediction started and walked out. I find this weird as i'm not a relgious person but I still don't get up in the middle of a service and walk out just because I don't want to listen to it.
Does anyone else find this strange both non and religious people??

Do you know why he walked out? Maybe it was a totally innocent reason.
If it wasn't for innocent reasons then yes, I do think it's rude. It doesn't matter if the service is religious or not, it's just plain bad manners to get up and walk out.

I agree, it is bad manners. Unless he had the runs, there's no excuse. I can remember sitting listening to whaikorero at Willie's dad's tangi, I was 15-odd weeks preg with Maya and busting to go to the toilet but you just don't get up and walk out till the speeches are finished, it's rude.

I know he just went outside so not sure why he did. I'm wondering if something will be sad at band on Wednesday night.

If I was listening to a band performing something and I found the lyrics too rude, I'd walk out. Kinda like if I felt a movie was going too far on the sexual side of things (or gory!!). I haven't ever done that though!
When I was teaching music in children's classes, I had a JW girl in my class who wasn't allowed to play Christmas Carols. At first I thought it was because I had shown her the Jingle Bells music (Santa reference) so I asked if she'd prefer Away in a Manger. But no, no carols at all. I've never understood that

I think its rude, it might not mean much to some people but the benediction means a lot to the veterans which is who ANZAC day is for after all.
