     Topic: Best Buggies/pushchairs?     Posted: 11 April 2006 at 9:13pm |

  |

   Hi all!

Maybe some of you can help me. I'm just wondering what the best places to shop for baby gear are in NZ, and Chch specifically. And what in your opinion are the best pushchairs available in NZ? I prefer the three wheel ones myself with the swivelling front wheel. Needs to be suitable for newborn, lie flat etc. I will have to do all my baby shopping in two months when I arrive in NZ, so need some pointers as to where to begin (which shops) since I havent found much info on the internet. Any help appreciated!
 Thanks
 Laura x

I can't give you a recommendation sorry but will say that I have not been at all happy with my Steelcraft. It is too big and bulky, the suspension isn't as good as others I have seen and I have had it in for repair already. Whilst walking along the wheel would just fly off!!!!!

My greatest piece of advise when you do buy one is to keep the receipt.
I have just had soooo much trouble with The Baby Factory trying to get mine fixed because I didn't have my receipt. Despite me spending probably $3000 in their store they gave me so much grief.
When looking at the shop do take the ones you like out and make sure they fit in your car.
   we didn't think of that.........

Thats funny, cause I have a steelcraft that I LOVE!!

But definitely keep the receipts. If your bubs doesn't wear something (Newborns are sometimes big!), you may be able to swap for a bigger size!

Yea I agree. Go to Baby Factory, Baby City, Farmers and Kmart (perhaps in that order too!)

Trademe (www.trademe.co.nz) is awesome. Got my Kapoochi Baby Bag from there. Love it!

We bought an 'Urban Escape' stroller & capsule travel system. The stroller is a three wheeler and I really do love it. I think Bertini is the really other good brand?

I hate my steelcraft too!! It is huge!! And silly me, didn't make sure it fit in the car before buying so have to take off the wheels and position it carefully the EXACT RIGHT way to make it fit in the boot!! I also find it topples easily on slopes, but the sidewalks around our place are quite often on bizarre anlges!!

All this double pushchair info is great! We're looking at getting a double, as Josiah will only be 17months when Baby arrives.

Bertini is a good brand, we have a 4 wheel steerable shuttle. Not as easily manouvered as a 3 wheeler but very stable. They do a toddler seat for it and I am going to look into their toddler board specific for the 4 wheeler, and see if we can get it in NZ. It has the pnumatic pumped tyres like 3 wheelers.

I agree about the toddler not wanting to go in the pushchair. 20months between our two and i brought a pram with a toddler seat. I have only managed to get ALyssa in it a handful of times. She would rather walk 3 ks then hop in the pram. Independent wee miss.

That is another thing I never thought about when buying our steelcraft. It never occurred tome before Quinn was born that I might want to do it all again and have another one. I wish I had bought a buggy that had a toddler attachment!

We've thought about getting a buggy with a toddler attachment, but think that a double might be more use to us at the moment... especially as Josiah isn't actually walking yet, and we think he might only have been walking for a couple of months when Baby arrives. Once Josiah decides he wants to walk everywhere, we'll just go back to our current single pushchair!

Thanks Maria! I had been looking at teh Phil and Ted's and couldn't find a double anywhere!

I also can't seem to find any twin prams/buggies that are front to back - they all seem to be side by sides which are huge. I looked at the Valco one at the Baby factory, the advantage with that one is that I can get a Kiddie Board for Maya as she is too big for a toddler seat and prefers to walk, but having the option if we are going a long way will be good.

But the Phila nd Teds is cheaper (the Valco is $899) and looks smaller/lighter so will definitely check it out.

Also have to buy a new car - my tiny little VW Polo is never going to fit 3 car seats, let alone a double stroller!
