Topic: best nappy?     Posted: 17 April 2011 at 2:17pm |

I have decided to put my 2yr DS in cloth so that I don't have to keep buying disposables for him. DD is in cloth but I have enough for her size at the moment so am trying to find a good OSFA, trim nappy for DS that I can use for DD as well. And that is on the cheap side. He is a heavy wetter so it needs to be able to hold alot.

Those made in china ones on TM look like they are bulky. Has anyone tried them?

Also does anyone use cloth wipes? and if so what type?

And has anyone used the Bambino mio soft nappy cover? they look really cute.

For wipes I have Cheeky Wipes which are on their 3rd year of service and still awesome, and I have quite a few old facecloths as well.

With a 2 year old you may find that he has pretty much grown out of the rise of the OSFA nappies.

Pocket nappies generally aren't bulky in themselves, it is the amount of stuffing that you need, the amount of absorbancy. You say that he is a heavy wetter, that would mean that you would probably need good absorbancy or you will get leaks. In saying that, a good pocket stuffer for a heavy wetter of his age is a red-stripe cotton flat, cheap and easy to dry. Just fold into quarters then thirds.

You get what you pay for, cheaper nappies may not do the distance between two children, so may not be the best answer for you.

I agree with using flat nappies folded up as inserts in pocket nappies, that's all we used when DD was in large nappies! There are a few on TM at the moment for cheap:

Out of the OSFM nappies I've tried, I'd recommend Grovia and Itti Bitti Tuttos for trimness. They are expensive compared to the TM brands, but if you want to use them for Rose as well, they'll last well. You can keep a look out for sales (particularly on nappy company Facebook pages), and it might be more cost-effective in the long run.
