Topic: Best way to involve #1 in     Posted: 17 September 2008 at 11:49am |

A friend of mine is due to have a little girl any day now and she was wondering of ways to involve her son (Mr 6) with the bub so he doesn't feel left out.

We thought of getting Mr 6 to read to bub (part of his homework is to read part of a book etc) so he was spending time with her as well as doing his homework
For those of you with 2 or more...how did you involve the other children??
 TIA

My step kids are much older (14, 11 & 8), but they enjoy playing/entertaining, reading and even fight to change her nappies LOL strange huh?

Keziah is almost 11 months now but in the beginning they just enjoyed hanging around us both and sitting on the couch for cuddles or what ever.

We had Janaya organise Jacksons bath, like getting the towel, flannel, baby wash etc..
Things like reading, singing as well. When he was really eenie she'd "watch" him sleep while he was in his basinette in the lounge.

I wondered about this as well so I asked Mum what she did with me (I am the oldest), one things was I always got a book out and she read to me when she fed my brother.

I would imagine she could ask him to be her big helper and he could help with things like getting the nappy ready, reading to baby or with baby etc.

I have the book "Toddler tactics" by Pinky Mckay and it has a section in there about what to do when #2 arrives but I haven't got there yet. I am sure there are other books at the library that cover this as well

Maya is 5 and she loves being my "big helper", she was the same when I had the gremlins when she was 3 1/2. She seems to like Chiara much more than the gremlins atm lol coz the gremlins get into all her stuff! She loves reading to Chiara either while she's on her playmat or while I'm feeding her, and she sings "you are my sunshine" to her which she says is Chiara's special song.

Keira has always been involved, there's no stopping her. Right from the very begining she would come to al the mw visits and right her own notes and checked my belly with her stethascope and measuring tape.
When she was first born we had to keep her busy with things like getting nappy stuff ready and reading to her while I fed. She now helps out with baths and is great at keeping her entertained while I'm busy cooking tea. She loves to sing to her sister and dancing for her
