Please tell me I'm not the only one with a biting baby . It started out as just me - when she was feeding, OUCH! - but yesterday she bit Maya and tonight she bit Willie and me in quick succession.

I know it's just a phase, and we tell her off appropriately etc. (I was in tears this morning, she drew blood on my poor nipple) but it's so frustrating!

The gremlins went thru a similar stage from memory, but they were a bit older, maybe 13-14 mths.

Yep- Im here, owning a biting, (also hitting pushing- basically a bully) toddler! Hear your frustration Emma.
I feel so awful when we are in a social situations & he does it, getting lots of looks & comments.
I think Kal does it out of frustration as he doesnt have the language yet or more likely he has copied what his peers have done to him

my boy does it too. He has 8 teeth and quite often bites me when he's feedng - almost like a way of telling me he's done. I tap him on the mouth with me finger and say don't bite then put him on the floor. The frustrating thing is half the time he doesn't care. He hasn't bitten anyone else yet except for a silly woman who put her fingers in his mouth but i figured that was her own fault. She did this while saying to me 'does he really have 8teeth?' and im going 'yes he does' then ouch he bit me!!! I found it kinda funny actually I wish there was something i could do to make him stop biting me though. Tears are a daily occurance

Yup, my boy did the exact same thing at 8 1/2 months. We ended up totally stopping bfing at 9 months, purely because he would just bite me and wouldn't even try to feed. I kept persevering and just keep getting sore bloody nipples (literally bloody) so in the end just stopped.

He also would bite the adults he loved/trusted at this age.... unfortunately that is still going on, but at least I guess he's not biting other kids yet.

Sorry no advice but yes you are definitely not the only one with a biting baby! Harry thinks it's funny and does it for attention or if he doesn't want to be held. Charming

I am having a real battle with Oli biting at the moment. He does in out of frustration and anger, but sometimes he thinks its a game. The hard part is that he only bites me. I am black n blue and I look a bit like I have been beaten all up and down my arms. (doesnt help that I bruise easily!!)

At the moment everytime he does it we say "no biting" in a very stern voice and put him on the floor....but its pretty tough as sometimes he thinks its a game and just carries on trying to bite me. Grrr...you have my complete sympathy Emma!!!!

Argh Liz, that was my mum's solution - apparently my sister was a biter and she got weaned as punishment, but I don't want to stop yet . Bad baby.

Nice to know I'm not the only one!

Charly was a biter up till about 18 months old... Lil minx, i swear she did it cos she knew how much it hurt. Now she just bites Jakes arm, although she hasn't done that (touch wood) for about 4 days or so...

Amy did it when she was about 15 - 18 months, once she was walking. She would walk up behind me, put her arms around my legs like she was going to give me a nice cuddle, but instead would try and take a chunk out of my thigh or butt , but not . That is when we started time out! She got the idea after a while!

I don't have a biter (I have a pusher and hitter instead), but Ella has been bitten quite a bit lately at daycare....and I actually feel quite sorry for the parents of the biter (I know how awful I feel when Ella randomly hits another kid) because it is a hard issue to deal with and sometimes quite sensitive.

Hopefully she grows out of it soon

I know what you mean Mum2Ella, I've always been quietly grateful that my gremlins only bite each other and not someone else's kids.

More biting today from lil miss - and if she didn't know before how much it hurt, she certainly does now. My yelps of pain would have been a dead giveaway! I still don't think she's aware of it tho, it's just like she's latching on with her teeth

Dom was a terrible biter but he only ever bit me. Usually it co incided with teething but then he learn that it got a reaction and it was for fun after that. So frustrating and very hard to teach them not too at such a young age. I used to just put him straight down on the floor if he bit me.

I am going through the same thing with my 14 month old!   Thankfully she only seems to bite me with the occassional nibble on her dad.   I have been told that its just a phase and she should grow out of it. She seems to do it at times of frustration or when she is excited. I say no and put her down but I am sure she thinks its a game.

maybe you need to cut back on the feeds and when she does bite put her down and finish the feed. it might be a boredom thing.

She seems to be getting over it, the biting has become less frequent and I'm watching her when she's feeding to try and pre-empt it . She sometimes bites when she is latching so I'm trying to be more aware of latching her with a wide open mouth, but given that she pretty much latches herself these days it's a mission to stop her jaws snapping at it the minute I undo my bra.
