Topic: Blardy Rates !!! Posted: 29 March 2008 at 2:21pm |
I read the annual plan submission thing that arrived in the paper today and it's made me really annoyed and mad!!
They want to put the rates up by 12%.. so much for the 7-8% they said they wanted.
Makes me angry knowing what stupid crap they spend a lot of money on. I know very well that our Council does spend money on good things too but they also take on way too many big projects and spend too much on them.. the clock tower was a waste of money, painting the council building in blardy ugly colours, spending millions on te manawa is just dumb, extending the runway for what?.. yes I could go on for ages..
For the first time I am actually going to put in a submission!
*rant over.. for now*

Ooohhh are you, I think they are going to be wasting our money with what they want to do to the esplanade too.
Rant away, I haven't read it yet, so may join you soon.

*is gonna read up and put in a submission too* It's ridiculous, goes up by 10% every single year which is ludicrous! And then they buy stupid rusting sculptures!!! *bangs head against wall* I am glad they upgraded the Square but honestly, haven't we done enough for a break for a while?

Yup I'm glad they upgraded the square but they still do so much stupid stuff and overspend in crazy areas. They want to upgrade Arena (2 I think) as well as Te Manawa and the esplanade. Whats wrong with doing one at a time?
Or they could try doing maintenance on things under roads BEFORE they reseal it rather than reseal, rip it back up and reseal it again

Ohh yes the road is driving me nuts. Linton and College st were done last year and they are ripping it up again and just sealing it again .
They should not touch the railroad in the esplanade either it is so much better now.

Botanical road is pretty bad too. There's constant roadworks going on there. They seem to rip something up then fix it then a few months later they are ripping up the same part again.

12%!!!!!!????!!!! Thats HUGE!! And that isn't even what your personal increase will be. That will most likely be even higher. You should all submit. Its the only way that the Council will do something about it. Good luck. I hope you get heard and they drop it.

I just got the paper out of the box and saw that there is a 7% increase 12% increase or a 15% increase. I saw how much out rates will probably go up by and OMG we will not be able to afford them . So going to read it fully tomorrow and will probably write in too.

Are your rates based on your capital value? Cos if they are then that will effect the overall increase to.

Properties were re-valued last year with Council I think.
They won't get the 15% increase - too many people will be against that, they also won't want the 7% one because they wont get to splurge our money on stupid projects. They want the 12% one.. I'm sooo getting everyone I know who owns a house to submit.

Re-val is every 3 years, Manawatu got done last year, and Palmy is due for another one this year.
Palmy rates are heaps lower than Manawatu, you've got 60,000 rate payers versus 14,000.
Ours are going up 8% too so is horizons.

Remember that Palmy rate payers have to pay Horizons as well
Right so I have just filed my first ever rate submission. I'm not holding my breath though! If anyone wants a copy as a starting point, just PM me (not that it's fantastic but it might help with thinking it thru!)
