Topic: bleeding after pregnancy (TMI!) Posted: 02 November 2008 at 8:22pm |
Just wondering when the bleeding should finish by? I heard it was 6 weeks. Its been 5 1/2 since I gave birth and the bleeding is still well and truly there. Its still red too. Just wondering if anyone has had this? Or does it mean somethings wrong?

I didn't finish up until about 7 weeks. Oh and I can't remember about colour, all I do remember is (TMI) passing a clot about 5 - 6 weeks

I bled till 6 weeks with the gremlins then passed a huge chunk of membranes and it stopped. Has your m/w discharged you yet? It might be worth mentioning it to her, but it is within the realm of 'normal'.

I bled for 6 weeks, and it was red at times and more heavy at times. i would just speak to your midwife and ask her what she thinks if you are worried. Mine told me that the bleeding can stop and start for a while, and can be quite heavy if you have been quite active that day etc

I think I bleed for around 6 weeks.
As others have said, it is still quite possibly normal but I'd just mention it to the midwife or dr if you have already been discharged.

Apparently it can be normal to bleed for up to 12 weeks post partum.
I bled for 8 with my first and was lucky enough to bleed for the full 12 after my second. It was red, steady flow for 8 weeks then brown spotting for the following 4.
Good times!

I bled for about 6 weeks. After the first 2 weeks it settled to mostly spotting (red and brown) with the occassional heavier red flow. But then after the 6 weeks I got lightish bleeds/spotting every couple of weeks until full blown AF returned when Ems was 4 months old - and I was fully bfing/expressing then too.

I was 7 weeks then had a few days of slight spotting and then another week of decent bleeding. If the amount of blood is worrying you, definitely talk to your mw or dr.

Lucky me it was only 3-4 weeks with both of them and then a mild discharge for another few weeks after that. Glad I didn't get the 12 weeks, that sucks!

9 weeks here, was a bit heavy then light then not at all for a couple of days, then heavy again. I asked my MW when it was 8 weeks PP and she said not to worry unless there is a smell to it or its filling a pad within an hour.

from memory 3 weeks with Vincent & i haven't got bleeding but brown spotting. not enough to fill a pad, but enough that two thin panty liners (doubled up) isn't enough. So is it normal to get a clotty membrane thing? TMI but i had some on sunday, looked like the outside of the placenta.

Get it checked out if you can! I had the same thing and everyone else told me it was normal, but i ended up having such bad cramps i couldnt walk. Turned out i had 'retained products' and had to have a D&C to get it all removed.

thanks denny, i talked ot my midwife bout it yesterday & she said if i get any flu like symptoms to let her know. i told her bout feeling heavy like i'm going to get my period, but not likely to since i didn't get it for nearly two years after having Vincent. lol. yea, she said to keep an eye on it if i start feeling yuck it will be an infection but if it was going to be bad, i probably would have started feeling yuck already.

hmm i didnt get any flu symptoms because mine wasnt an infection - just keep an eye on it esp. if you start passing large clots (the size of a 50c piece).

I bleed for 9 weeks passing lots of clots and bits the whole time especially in the shower one would drop then a quick flood of blood scared the hell out of me the first time but after a visit to a&e (on midwifes advice after 5weeks) a scan showed a small piece of placenta but they told me to wait and let it pass as surgery could cause a rip and heaps more problems. 2 more hospital visits (cos they keep saying if it hasnt passed in a week we will definately do something each time i visited) it finally stopped on its own.
