I am looking at getting a Bumbo seat for Gina. Has anyone on here got one? Did you find it useful and how long did you use it for? Would you buy again knowing what you know now? I'm kind-of-keen on one but DH needs convincing and I don't know enough to manage that alone

I would LOVE to have one of these! My friend has one and her DD was in it for ages - up to a year I think? A young baby can't fall over or out and an older baby can't even wriggle out. They are excellent value and I'm tempted to get one for Krystiana since she isn't much of a mover but likes to see what is going on.

My friend was also able to put hers on the bench with her DD in it while she was cooking dinner Shows the faith she has in it not being able to tip!!

I personally don't like them as I don't think a baby should be made to sit up if they aren't able to by themselves.. Ella didn't sit until 8 months, but she crawled first. It seems like many people use them though.

i'm with meow on this one... neither of my boys had one i dont want one for this one either.
I'm sure they have their uses tho - i know emma found them good, but then the rules are slightly different when you have two kids to contain at the same time.

Katherine has lent me Emma Rose's one. It is very cool but I keep forgetting to use it. I know that Katherine used to take it with her when she went on holiday and Emma Rose used it instead of a highchair. Nice and easy to cart around.

I found them absolutely indispensable, partly because like Gandt said they help to contain two babies at the same time, they are just so convenient. I would take them out and about with us and the girls could sit and watch the world go by, and we used them to feed them when they first started solids as they weren't quite sitting well enough to go in the high chairs.
I know it seems a bit odd putting a baby sitting up when he or she can't sit on their own, but the design of the Bumbo seats supports trunk development so it's not doing any damage at all, in fact it has even won design awards and been endorsed by some of the major UK paediatric hospitals.

I quite like the look of them as Gina likes to sit down in my lap all the time but can not sit by herself. She's also not balanced well enough to sit in the high chair yet so will make solids introduction more difficult - I'd rather not sit her in my lap as I can't see her properly.
Thanks for the feedback!

I think I'll have to do that too - hubby has remained unconvinced about the Bumbo

Yes, I LOVED my Bumbo. I got it on TradeMe from the company that imports them into NZ to sell them -- Angel something, their name is. It's a pair of grandparents, and the granddad dropped it off at our house, which made me feel like it was extra-special (infused with all that grandparently love and caring, lol). Em couldn't sit up for ages and I got it when she was around 7 months old but still not sitting up. I read really good things about how they help strengthen babies' back muscles and help them learn to sit. I used to put her in it and plop her on the floor with heaps of toys within easy reach, so she was strengthening those core muscles reaching for them! It was also awesome to use as a highchair when we were away from home, as it's portable, super-lightweight and washes off really easily. I tried to use it in the bath a few times, but Em is so light that it always "floated", so we gave up on that. I'm a big fan of the Bumbo!

By the way, I tried this and found that it didn't work well for us, as Em kept sliding down and getting her chin(s) all scrunched up in her neck -- she was reclining when I really wanted her to be sitting up, so she could swallow properly. And the Bumbo was much simpler to clean than the bouncinette cover!

THE gremlins lent us one of theirs...Ella was alrady trying to sit up and she has taken to it big time...she loves me tosit in front of her nd play with her = whereas before she was inbetween my legs looking out...a major plus for them i think....

I dont see it is a negative where ella was already trying to sit as developmentally it hasnt stopped her just aiding her sitting now...

BTW Emma rocks!!!
