Topic: c section and tubes tied? Posted: 18 November 2009 at 8:24pm |
i realise this can go in c section area but i wondered who is contemplating it?I assumed it would be a much worse recovery but have heard it isn't..any experiences? My Dh is going to get the snip as well but we know a few people that has failed for so looking at options for me too..

My cousin recently had baby #5 by c-section (third section) and had her tubes tied at the same time. I wasn't in NZ right after the birth but I saw her when we were home. She said the recovery was fine, she had help from her mum but she had that after all the other kids too I think she might have stayed in the hospital a bit longer (like 5 days instead of only a couple).

two of my friends had it done during their c-sections. For both it was a second child and second c-section. Both seemed to fine the recovery about the same - except for the fact that they had a toddler and a new born.

The only thing is that the success rate is a bit lower if it's done with a CS - something to do with all the extra fluid and swelling

I just had this done last week when Anthony's birth ended up in a C/S. I had mentioned it in passing to my midwife during the pregnancy so she just let the surgeon know at the time and he made sure I still agreed to it before he went ahead.
I only have the 2 babies and am 34, but they were fine with it and it wasn't a problem for them to do it. They actually found a couple of cysts on my ovaries while they were in there so removed them as well
I haven't had a c/s before so can't compare to whether the recovery is worse/better, but overall I haven't found the experience too bad
Oh, and my DH will be getting the 'snip' as well just to be sure. I can't remember the exact statistics, but they said something about it being a 1/200 chance of it not taking properly or similar.

If i haveto have a ceasar with this baby i will be getting my tubes tied - I do not want anymore babies (I think for is enough for me)
We have planned to get DH the snip but I thought i would let him off the hook if i had to have a c section - so do you think that for being very safe he should be done as well?

mum2sam- good to know.. yeah i am going to talk to mw and OB and hopefully they disagree with doc:) he's pretty conservative:)
chick-yes. I think for two reasons..at least for us... one I have done two pregnancies and neither of us want anymore children even if we split with each other so i think he needs to do his part and also i have heard of people who get preg when tubes tied...but not when tubes tied and the snip so we will be doing both.. i just thought it would be way worse recovery..but seeing as it isnt i would rather get both lots of surgery done at once.

Well they're in there fiddling around with bits already so I dont see why it should be worse to recover from!
I'd love to do this, I dont think hubby would be keen. If I get pregnant again after this one it wont be staying with us. I only signed up for 2 :P

I got asked this yesterday by the OB who was booking me in for elective in 3 weeks and im 33. I hadnt thought about it but i not planning on having anymore children. I said to OB that I wasnt sure etc, cos its so final and even though i dont want anymore children, even though he reckons that i will prob have more since im doubtful of getting it done, but hello its a huge thing to say no more children, its another thing to get your tubes tied and i hadnt even had time to think about it
It just dawned on me after seeing andriea had hers done during csection that i should be thinking about it. One of the things thats stopping me is I always used Depo provera and never really had to worry about AF, but if i get tubes tied then i wont need anything like that and it will mean i will get AF every month again.........
Ive got 3 weeks to decide. My DH was gonna get the snip, i dont want him to get let off from that
