I'm pretty sure that you have to go by what your car seat says. So if it says to rear face until 9kgs, once your child is over that then you need to turn them around as the seat isn't tested/safe for children over that weight limit. Will be interesting to see what CRS says though.

CRS has a really good section on rear facing on her site Becks (if you havent already read it) It does explain that some carseats are rear facing till 9mths and what to do in that situation. It also mentions that read facing till 12mths minimum is best practice for carseat safety. This is what we promote at plunket.

I left Paige rear facing untill 11 months, now she just chats the hole time. she loves being able to see where she is going.

I got a reply back from the car seat restaint place (very impressed on the quick reply) and they have said that so long as he fits in the seat of rear facing I can keep him that way. So happy about that, as he loves facing that way. The inlaws put him in their car today and was forward facing and he didn't like it.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!
