We stayed at a friend's place recently who have two long-haired cats. Poor ds was quite unsettled while we were there, and by the evening he had a runny nose, dry cough, puffy eyes and a very wheezy/hoarse cry.

We got him out of the environment pretty quickly and the symptoms cleared up, except for when I tucked a blanket over him in his carseat which had been in the house and his eyes started to go puffy and the cough came back.

This reaction to the blanket tells me that he could be very sensitive to cats - I am just wondering if other Mums who's kids are allergic to pets as babies have found that it has eased up as they get older? Also, have Mums found that kids with pet allergies are more likely to suffer from asthma?

cheers

My DD has an allergy to cats that was confirmed through allergy blood tests. She is highly allergic to long haired cats, especially Persians and reacts immediately with sneezing, streaming eyes and eczema break outs. She does not have asthma though.

Our specialist told us to keep our cat though to help to desensitize her. She no longer reacts at all to our cat.

Hope that helps!

Oh poor little man! We have had both our cats and dogs (2 of each) outside since before DS was born since both myself and DH have allergies/asthma/hayfever etc...

I still react to other peoples cats and dogs but can tolerate our own.
