Topic: changing midwives and skin breakouts Posted: 06 March 2006 at 6:09pm |
Another double whammy from yours truly !
I am so sick of my skin having these random breakouts, and yes I know I shouldn't be scratching, but I don't even realise I've done it most times until *after* I'm finished or hubby tells me off. Anybody have any good natural solutions for making it go away faster? I say natural because I don't want to have to spend a lot of money on cream or anything, and it's not *too* bad, but if I get frustrated enough I will buy something.
Secondly... *brace yourselves !!* I have just discovered that it's going to be a phenomenal pain in the ass to change midwives from my current one based in Auckland, to one on the North Shore where we will be moving. I haven't yet spoken to the lady I got a call from who is with the network of midwives over the North Shore (based at the hospital), but when I spoke to my own midwife, she said that the ADHB won't let her care for someone who is not giving birth in an Auckland district hospital - and I was like... well what am I supposed to do for the next two months (well, just shy of 8 weeks) before we actually move !? Fair enough that rules are rules, but I'm not going over to the North Shore just for appointments, it's hard enough getting to the ones in Auckland with my work schedule being the way it is - on top of having just the one car between the two of us.
Any ideas / suggestions / comments or sympathies ??
Right, that's mostly me for now... am on a late shift today (ANOTHER one of my baby brained moments, was actually meant to start at 8:30 instead of 10am so had to work out the time I missed !!)... and going home soon, but the effort is going to be in trying not to kill my ***** flatmate

Hey what kind of breakouts do you mean?? Like acne or rash. I seem to have both at the moment. I have really strange acne which i don't get that often but now have heaps and i seem to get a little rash type thing on my legs they get really itchy. Anyone know why this could be.

Sorry Jax can't help re the breakouts bit. But when I was preggy with Jasmine we were living in Mt Eden but were going to move to the North Shore when I stopped working so I found a midwife that covers both central and the north shore, I know that are a few MWs doing that, that way you can see them before you move.

I hate preggy skin. Everyone makes such a big deal about having lovely skin and hair while carrying a babe but all I can remember is my hair being greasy and my face being oily and full of yucky pimples. Started getting then on my chest again too which was gross!!!!!
Anyway, not much help other than to let you know you aren't alone.
And I can give a bit of sympathy to you having to drive all around Auckland just to get to your midwife. Must be a mongrel with the traffic! (That's if you even manage to steal the car from hubby!)

Sorry cant help with the skin thing either. But, with the midwife change, it will only be 2 appointments at most wont it?? I know what the Auck traffic is like etc. but maybe it wont be so bad. When I changed midwives, I drove from Hastings to Dannevirke for appointments for several months (an hour and a bits drive).

Skin problem - pimples mostly ! Hate it, hate it, hate it !
With the midwife thing, the difficulty is that by the time I'm free she's not likely to take appointments if she's based at the hospital (can't remember her name and haven't booked an appointment yet, am just going to have a chat first), if you take into account both my work schedule, traffic, and the time it would take to commute
I'm going to go pick up the phone book soon and have a gander at the listings for independent midwives, see what I can dig up and maybe give some a call tomorrow.
Flatmate wise, she's been thiefing our food, and being generally useless. Anyway, the less mentioned about her the better so as to avoid turning me into a complete psychopath !

Hey Jax where on North Shore are you moving? The midwife I had with Alex is operating out of the Old Albany Village & she was wonderful. She was pretty flexible with times to meet up, I used to have them at different times all the time anywhere between 8am & 7pm :-p I'm not sure what hospitals she covers other than North Shore (where I went) but she was really great. She is an independant midwife but works with 3 other really great midwives. I'm reasonably sure she does Birthcare in Parnell as that was an option available to me.

I am seeing a midwife in Glen Innes even tho I live in Avondale (she delivered Maya). I have to drive to clinic for my appts, and she will 'contract' out my postnatal care so God knows who I will end up with then, but the important thing is that I get the midwife I feel comfortable with for labour and delivery.

Hi
I left getting a midwife until i was about 10 weeks and it was so frustrating trying to find one.
Emma, I have to drive to Glenn Innes too, as that was the only one available, and I also live in Avondale and work over the shore, so its a pain!
Next time, Im going to get a midwife as soon as I find out im pregnant!

My midwife is Yvonne Daji. There is a group of midwifes there. They work in teams and the other one, Hilary, lives in Pt Chev, so Im hoping she will do the home visits.

LMAO - Yvonne is my midwife too! She delivered Maya three years ago, and she was awesome! Suited me down to the ground as I am so not a touchy-feely person, and neither is she, and because she wouldn't put up with me being a sooky bubba. I wanted a c-sect after a scan at 36 weeks showed Maya presently awkwardly and big for dates, and Yvonne told me not to be ridiculous. And when I was in labour pushing and screaming " I can't do this" she said "Settle down, you don't have a choice" which was exactly what I needed at the time!

I like her too, you're right she isnt very touchy-feely, which suits me as well.
Its a pain driving out there but i didnt have a choice so I've been lucky that I like her as well, it could have been so much worse if I was stuck with someone I didnt get on with.

I kind of ended up with her by accident - they do free pregnancy testing and I was a few days late and freaking out so I went there and did the test. It was positive, and Yvonne asked me if I wanted to stick with her as a midwife and not knowing any different I said OK. Having heard so many midwife horror stories since then I now realise how lucky I was that I got a good one by fluke! I also like her waaaay better than the other midwives in the practise there.
I don't know how happy she'll be to see me next week tho - I think I was a big pain in the a** last time round lol so she might think "oh no, not again!"

Righto ! Thanks to the wonderful toniellis - my problem has been solved, and I have a "new" midwife ! Will be going with Jill Allen, and looks like I'll deliver at Birthcare, will have one last appointment with my midwife here in central Auckland at the end of this month - one apointment before we've shifted to the Shore with Jill, and the rest should be cruisy enough
