Just saw this on the Min Ed site and thought others mightn't have seen it. It seems that all schools and preschools in Canterbury, Waimak and Selwyn districts will be closed until Wednesday...

Yes my boss mentioned it this morning...the ministry just want to make sure that the buildings are deemed safe and stable for the kids, not just the structure but also the shelving etc as some of the older schools didn't have to comply with the same building codes as the "modern" ones and then again some of the labs need to be checked for chemical spillage etc and the piping (water and sewrage and gas) needs to be thoroughly checked for each and every school in the area. Quite a daunting task but worth the check
