Kelly, where did you get your wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses from? Your dress was gorgeous! Was it a trademe bargain?

nope , looked there tho !
the bridesmaids dresses I got from Meric, and they were reduced to half price (were originally $60) and my dress I got from a shop in Manukau, was on a mannequin so got it for cheaper ...
And C (flower girl ) I got her dress from Farmers and just added a red sash

OOH Meric hadn't thought to looked there, was going to do Stax or something.
How long did you wait before your wedding to get bridesmaid dresses?
DD I'm going to get a friends mum to make a pettiskirt then she can just wear it whenever, so I know her at least, the rest of us well that's a whole other story

I decided to go for an outdoor wedding in a friend's beautiful farm in Matakana. We rented a marquee from an online company www.marqueehire.net.nz and it went down great especially since we had some showers

hen we get round to it, DS will prolly be old enough to help plan lol. so if he wants fairy bread served, then we will serve fairy bread. if he wants mummy to wear a blue dress with thomas the tank engine all over it, then i will lol.
Mum will sew my dress (this and a grandchild are what she has been waiting for, for the last 22 years lol!)
prolly just have the wedding in our backyard, then head away to the beach or a park for some bridal party photos and hopefully get family and friends to help turn backyard into reception area while we are away having photos done. (or have the wedding at a park and come home for the reception... or someones backyard as its free lol)
most likely do a bbq and keep it all very informal.
photographer we will most likely get someone professional and neutral but will defo be shopping around for a cheap deal.
we are thinking have a kids area too and hire a babysitter or 2 to help look after the kids area if the parents want to have adult conversation.
will have finger food during the reception and the bbq "meal".
might buy a cake but dunno yet.
we want inexpensive, personal and fun. we both love the church and fancy bridesmaids and white wedding dress and meals with waiters.... but its not how we grew up and we want it to be a family thing (incl DS) not just me and DP iygwim?
its not for everyone but if you are looking for something "original" ... think about what makes your and your family who you are... if you both love rugby, then have a rugby ball cake. if your favourite movie is the same... then have a theme. if you both love to cook, then help do all the cooking yourself or make your own wedding cake. if you both love the outdoors, make cupcakes instead of a wedding cake and get little cake-topper trees for them (or flowers or whatever)
HTH! and congrats btw

we had a lot of kids at ours, they ran around and played on our trampoline, was fine
Had the BBQ meal plus some nibbles
C was old enough to help plan ...but no way was I letting her tell me what to wear, I hate to think what she would have come up with

Tapas could be another idea for cheap food, no idea on what it would be compared to a buffet.
We are thinking of doing a destination wedding if we ever get around to it! We both have big families so will end up cheaper as less people will be able to come.

I;ve been looking at what would be considered a bridesmaind's dress - wear it long for the wedding, then get it taken up & you'll have a cocktail dress for other weddings and special events :)
After we've eloped in Quebec we're going to have a party for everyone round home (we're super luck and have a massive back yard). This way if people can be bothered turning up they will, if not well their loss!
We'll have 2 spits one a wild pig & one with lamb, chicken & beef for those that wont eat the wild meat. I'll only serve coleslaw and buns - have had far too many parties where fancy salads dont get touched and it ends up being wasted.
and as per usualy BYO booze! Though we are contemplating a Keg (think they are about $300ish). but the meat we get for free so it'll just be the salad & buns that will cost. plus with buns you dont need plates so no washing up!
Doesnt help that we'll have just come back from our trip so will be super broke!

I would have loved a midmorning garden wedding with kids blowing bubbles, and a boy picnic lunch with some garden bowls and a cricket game or two.
LOL I loved my wedding too...but it was neither cheap or informal. Fun though :)

We have changed up our ideas a little. Since we have kind of set a date (more like time frame at this point lol) we have looked at hiring a venue not far from where we live but when we realised that it would be close to $1000 just for the venue hire I had the crazy idea of going to a local park and just having a picnic wedding. We have a friend who is a marriage celebrant and if everyone brings a plate and a blanket then we should be pretty well set and on the really cheap too.

we did a small wedding ceremony and got gifts and favors from https://www.bestpricefavors.com/product-category/wedding-favors-decorations-supplies/cheap-wedding-favors-ideas/ our guests loved the intimate event instead of having a large ceremony
