OK, so I am a self confessed chocoholic, I would live off the stuff if I could (well that and lollies, couldn't give those up). So I am wondering, a few things I have read have said that you shouldn't have the likes of chocolate and lollies, so I am hoping someone can answer, just how bad is it for bubs? (aside from the excessive weight gain it would cause to mum, and the mad exercising she would do after bubs is born to try and rid herself of the love handles that suddenly got bigger!)

Choc im not too sure about, I have to eat chocolate! haha But lollies - try to avoid alot of those.
Lollies are pretty much all sugar. Excess sugar is not good.

Diabetes is more common in pregnant woman and if your sugar levels increase too much during pregnancy it can cause you to get diabetes and to have a big baby.

Just don't go crazy on it and you'll be fine.

Dark chocolate is supposed to contain iron, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. |

I thought that it was okay. They just say to stay clear of it because it raises your sugar levels and in early pregnancy could set off morning sickness. And i really can't talk because i am sitting here with a snickers beside me...v |

I ate loads of chocolate and lollies while preggy! In the first trimester I was too sick to even look at them, but after that... I read something about chocolate being good for bubs - apparently in a study, those born to mums who ate choc daily were more laid back and easy going, while the others were a bit more highly strung. I have a really laid-back bubs so you never know... |

I heard that dark chocolate is the best as it has iron plus very good anti-oxidants. PLUS the main things about dark hoolate is that it is low GI so it doesnt shoot your blood sugar levels up - lots of people eat dark chocolate on low GI diets and lose weight infact!

I craved scorched almonds when I was preg with Maya. Probably explains why I put on so much weight in the last trimester.. But I have a friend who is a Type 1 diabetic and she says chocolate is OK (for her to eat) as it contains carbs, whereas she can't break down the straight sugar in lollies etc.
