Topic: coming off depo Posted: 29 September 2008 at 4:40pm |
Hi Girls I came off the depo at the end of last year but have since not had a period (sorry if it's too much tmi) I was just wondering if anyone had the same thing. We have just started trying for a baby but I have no idea when I'm ovulating or anything. Any info would be great.

Hi ya,
I'm not very clued up on the depo as I've never been on it. but if you wanna try sort out your cycles you could try Vitex (Thompson's once-a-day is good), I don't get natural periods usually and when I take it I always get a period about 2-3 wks after starting it, so it sorts the out hormones out alright!

Hey limo!!! Welcome to the other side! How long were you on Depo? That can have a lot to do with how long it takes. Basically, it can take up to two and a half years for things to get back to "normal"...but that doesn't mean you can't get pg, as you will normally ovulate before your first AF anyway... Each time for me, the length of time it took for AF to come back, was equal to the length of time I was on depo - e.g. was on depo for 9 months, and it took 9 months after the last shot I had expired for my first AF to come.
Good luck!

Thanks for the ideas girls I might give the vitax a try after my wedding lol. Hi Kate, you are always so full of wisdom! I've been on the depo for probably about 3yrs. I guess without having af though I have no way of finding out when I am ovulating. I got pregnant with my 1st son after being off the depo for 3 months so I guess that's a good sign but that was 7yrs ago.

Hi Limo, I have a friend who came off depo after being on it for only about 9mos, it took her about the same amount of time to get her period back and I think she conceived within about 3mos after that.

I was on depo for a couple of years and it took 14 months for my period to come back after I stopped getting the injections.

I would be quite happy if it only took a few months to conceive but we'll see and I'll keep my fingers crossed. I must say that I conceived my 1st son having only missed one depo injection. How long did it take you to conceive Pearls? That is if you don't mind me asking.

sounds pretty similar to me. i was on depo for a year and my periods were real wierd right through i pretty much spotted the entire time. got no period for months after i came off it so went to the doctor. i was given provera to induce my periods which worked within a week got my first natural period 34 days after that. i was then given clomid because i still wasnt ovulating. i started ovulating after 3 cycles on clomid and now im 10 weeks pg. my last injection was due in jan this year but i never got it.

Hi limochick,
I was on the depo for about 4 years and it only took my AF about 2 to 3 weeks to come back. Hopefully yours comes back fairly soon for you.
Good luck with your TTC journey.

I was on Depo for 4 years and it took just over 2 years for AF to come back. Can't comment on how long it took to conceive after that tho as I didn't stop the depo so we could TTC, I switched to the Pill.

Hi girls well I thought that I would update you all. I've been to the doctors and had bloods taken etc and they all say that I haven't been ovulating. So hence AF not showing her face. I really wanted to be pregnant by christmas I know that's wishful thinking but now the doctor just tells me "to wait and see" I seriously hate that sentence lol.

hi ill put my 2 cents in, I was on depo for 8 years i did watersports compeatitivly so went on it as soon as af appeared! came of in November last year, didnt take long to get some spotting but never anything more that 2 days. Had 2 mc this year and am finally preg!
I hated the dr saying to wait and see too but everyone is different so thats all you can really do. I also tried one of the ovualtion kits from the chemist about $20 once i started spotting but never found them that great cause everything was so irregular so wouldnt suggest that. Id say as soon as you get some spotting start having sex once its stopped and see what happens thats what we did and your partner will love it mine did lol although once there were 2 pink lines he was banished untill we got to 12 weeks lol

Hi, I am new, and I thought I had put a post on already but I couldn't find it.. if that is the case and this is already out there somewhere sorry for the repeat.
I am due for my injection this week and not taking it, in the past I have taken 'breaks' from it and AF has always come on straight away so I am hoping it will be the same for this time, a lot more nervous though cos this time I am not coming off for a break, we want to have a baby and it is scary just having to 'wait and see'

Sorry Limochick, I have only just realised you asked me a question and I totally missed it!
I can't say how long it took LOL As DD #1 was unplanned albeit very welcome!
Though I can say I won't be touching Depo again with a 10ft barge pole...
