Topic: Constipation Posted: 13 August 2008 at 7:34pm |
Kryssi (20mos) is having trouble with constipation, but I'm not sure if it's a regular kind of constipation or a too much kind of constipation IYGWIM? She is definitely straining and pushing off and on during the day and she gets it out - usually a ball of poo and oftentimes still sitting in her crack. She drinks plenty of water as far as I can tell and I'm making a conscious effort to offer water at least at every meal (5). But she often asks (and is granted) for water regularly throughout the day as well. She has a piece of fruit each day, which I'm looking to up to two, and a couple of weetbix most breakfasts. All in all her diet seems pretty well-balanced.
So is it just normal toddler constipation or does it warrant a dr visit? What would you do?

I would give her a couple of kiwifruit that will help her out.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I think juicy fruit like pears, peaches, kiwifruit are all supposed to help with constipation. Prune juice and prunes work wonders too - would she eat any?
BTW is it a new thing or has it been happening for a while?

Yep I have been doing that this week but the constipation I described is "normal" for her, not just lately.

Could she have your gluten intolerance? maybe lay off the weetbix for a bit and see if that makes a difference. You can get kiwi juice its more concentrate that eating them and not as acidic, I drink it to help me, so you could try that as well maybe.
