I was making my own birthday cakes from about 7 Lol... mum hated baking as her mother forced her to do it as a kid, so rarely ever bakes things.

Happy birthday Mel, I'm sorry it sucked. How about you put effort into pretending tomorrow is your birthday, have a great day and a fab party and just forget about the 29th?
I had a sucky birthday my first year as a mummy too. I'd just gone back to work 1 week prior, we didn't make the same kind of fuss as we used to because we had a 5mo that needed looking after and my mum, dad and 5 siblings all forgot about my birthday - DH ended up ringing them after Michaela went to bed because I was soooo melancholy.
Last year I decided I was going to have a great birthday no matter what and I reminded my family for weeks in advance and sent them a text on the morning of my birthday when I got up - they're not going to live it down!

Sorry that it wasn't the best birthday Mell, but happy belated birthday wishes from a July/August 07 mum.
