Hi everyone!

I have had two ultrasounds, the first was some time ago and showd baby to be 5w4d at the time.

Last Friday the 14th, I should have been 12w1d and I had my nuchal scan, and baby measured 13w0d. Does that mean that I am actually 13 weeks now, or was baby just long?

Bit confusing, not sure if this means my EDD changes. My midwife seems to be AWOL and I can't get hold of her.

Thanks

They normally keep the date of the first scan as the earlier the more accurate (or so they say).

Its not uncommon for them to measure a little ahead or behind dates.. both my babies have measured a week ahead by length at my NT scan.

Baby may have just had a wee growth spurt, just in time for your scan and by the 20 week one will be back on track with your dates

Oh ok thanks! I was getting a bit excited thinking baby might be due a little earlier (is due the day before my birthday).

After the first scan my midwife said she didn't think that such an early scan would be very accurate anyway, which was what had me wondering in the first place. Not sure if she knows what she is talking about half the time.

Thanks very much

When I have my NT scan for Jackson he was 12w+3d by my LMP but his CRL was 13w exactly. Then when I had my 20 week scan I was 19w+4d and his average gest from all the measurements was 18w+4d. In the end I had 3 different EDD's... Jackson was born 2 weeks early going by my LMP

At my NT scan bubs was measuring 2 wks ahead, we changed the due date and he measured correct right through my pregnancy and then was 2 weeks late. So we should have stuck with the original dates.

I was tracking my cycles so knew what my dates were anyway

I had a scan before Caleb was born and he was supposed to be 9 pounds. He came out the next day at 7lb15oz, so sometimes the scans just aren't accurate!

I had a scan at 5w and it didn't show much, next scan at 7w3d and scan said 6w so OB changed my EDD even though I told him I was fairly sure of my dates. THEN at my 11w3d ish scan bubs was measuring right on track for my original dates! The OB's opinion was that the later scan was more accurate than the early one, interestingly enough!

Last pg Callum measured about a week ahead from the 12w scan onwards. He was born 8wks early and the paed agreed w my original dates. Also the scan will usually have a margin of error of about 6 days as well.

Your EDD is just an estimate, I'd stick with the later one and be stoked if you get to meet your baby a bit earlier than anticipated ;)

Jelly - you have made my day!!! I just had a scan last week that showed baby was already 8lb5oz at 37 weeks. I've been quietly stressing about it ever since.

I always thought that the earliest scans were the most accurate for dates as genetic variations are less evident...(I'm sure that's what the sonographer told me).

I guess at the end of the day, it doesn't matter when your EDD is, as baby will likely turn up sometime between 37 and 42 weeks regardless of scans and dates. Someone needs to invent an in-utero calendar so they know when we're expecting them
