I bought a mothers choice cot for my baby girl, she is now 16 months.

Three nights after putting her in it she got stuck!
She wriggled her way to become sleeping along the head of the cot and got her little arm so firmly wedged down the back of the cot that i had to get my husband to help her out.
To Mothers choices credit did accept the cot to be returned as I explained to them this was unsafe for use!

My poor baby, now she has the top of the range from baby city and its just gorgeous!!

Aww sounds terrible!!
My cot from warehouse ( Was free ) is total crap!
It has gaps everyside of the mattress and the mattress is the size the cot specifies.
And here we all are believing all cots were made to strict standards!!

Lil miss has a Touchwood and I it. The gremlins had really gorgeous wooden sleigh cots (can't remember the brand) but Mercedes broke hers!

I had a mother's choice bouncy chair that was awful and dangerous, I have steered clear of their stuff since.

I have pamco cots for my boys and love them, they are the ones that change into junior beds so Spencer is still in his now but with the sides off. Very handy when our bedrooms are not the hugest.

The Buckingham cots are made by Genesis furniture in South Auckland and are fantastic. I have a second hand one and rave about it constantly. Best thing is if you need any parts like the teething rails you can go to the factory and get them no probs.

Katie that cot from the Warehouse sounds really bad. Do you know the brand? Reason I ask is my DH works at Warehouse HO and he could let the buyers know.

How much of a gap is too much? I've got one of those genesis buckingham cots and when I push the mattress so it's up against the headboard the bottom of the mattress goes to the end of the base but there's a big gap all the way down between the end headboard and the base. Do you think we've put it together right? I can fit my whole arm down it, so I'm thinking that's pretty significant! Do you girls with the same cot have a gap like that?

Mine has about a 2cm gap EVERY side..
Bobbie - Its called an Ascot cot from Babywise, and I think they all should be burned..!

I can't even tuck bubs blankets into anything, but DH is having a hard time accepting its unsafe.
I think he just doesn't want to fork out for a new one.

Chelle the Genesis Buckingham cots take american size cot mattresses which are larger - Have you got a NZ size one instead?

Thanks Madiandme I'll pass it on to my DH who can let the Category manager and buyers know.

There shouldn't be any gaps between cot and mattress (well any significant ones).

Thats what I thought too, and to make the cot worse some how my baby ( A mere 8kgs) managed to snap off the plastic bit that keeps the sliding side in place.
Here comes a new cot...
Cheers Bobbie, they really, REALLY shouldn't be on the market!

I've got a genesis cot too & found that one brand of cot mattress didn't fit nearly as well as another even though they were the same size. The one I got from Baby City was a thinner foam, so when I put a fitted sheet on, it kind of bent the foam under & caused big gaps especially at the corners. I wasn't comfortable using it, so got one from Baby Factory - different brand, same length & width measurements, but much thicker/sturdier foam. This one fits great.

Wow mine (that is packed up now) was made for my boys and I love it so much, will never get rid of it ever as it was made out of heart rimu.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I think it is the mattress rather than the cot. I've got an American sized one from Farmers but it's 1295cm (though it's actually slightly less) and I think the cot measures 1330cm so I guess that's what the difference is. DH is going to get some foam to put down one end, then hopefully if I tuck the sheets over that too it will be ok. The lady at Baby Factory said it's more of a problem if there are gaps at the sides than at the ends.

Madiandme - update for you.

My DH spoke to the Category Manager who was understandably concerned (although he hasn't heard of it before) and he said they definitely don't sell those cots anymore.
