Topic: Did you wash your cariboo bassinet? Posted: 07 August 2010 at 12:54pm |
Hi ladies
I've bought a brand new cariboo bassinet and was wondering - should I wash the fabric before using it (I haven't even opened the box yet)?
What did you do???
Seems like a dumb question I know, but I don't want to wash it and then find out they shrink or something!

I bought one off TM and I washed it. I have a front loader with a hand wash cycle and I think from memory I used that cycle. Are there washing instructions on it?

Nope we didn't wash it, like Kellz it never crossed my mind to wash it. The fabric doesn't touch DD's skin at all anyway.

I washed ours before DS came along (and ironed it too haha)
I washed the whole thing, including the veil. It didn't cross my mind not to wash it actually.. not too sure why but I admit DH thought I was a bit odd.

I washed ours. I wash any new thing just in case there are residual chemicals or anything on it. It didn't shrink or anything and I just put it through a regular wash and then in the dryer. I did do the veil on a delicate wash and air dried that and I have noticed a couple of tiny holes in it now. Not sure if it's from the washing machine or not but might pay to handwash that.

I bought mine second hand and it had some stains on it so I washed it and put it through the dryer but it did seem to shrink.

I've just chucked mine in the washing machine.
Sorry to hijack, but does anyone know how to get the awful chemical smell out of the foam mattress that they come with?? I've had ours airing inside for a few days now but it still smells. We haven't had sun so haven't been able to put it outside...

I've just brought one off TM, never crossed my mind to wash it, now I'm not sure if I should or not! We were thinking we would buy a new mattress, even tho it has only been used for 3 months by the previous person, aren't you meant to get a new mattress? Or is that just for cots they recommend that?

I brought one of TM and just washed it on the weekend. I just took it off and put it through a warm wash with the bassinet sheets and then into the dryer. It came out fine.
The veil came out fine too and was in the same wash and dryer.

Yup, I've washed mine three times since Mason was born (so not even 3 weeks!) thanks to his awesome stomach pyrotechnics.
I also washed it when we first bought it, before Hannah was born, before putting it in storage, and again when it came out of storage.
So it's been washed heaps, and hasn't shrunk or faded (I dried it on a clotheshorse, inside, out of the sun though).
Don't worry MrsEmma, I ironed mine, too

Aha! I just KNEW I wouldn't be the only one to iron it! It's that linen fabric that just creases like anything, I couldn't stand it!
Mine also didn't shrink or fade etc, I did the same as MamaPickle and dried it inside in the shade on a clotheshorse.

I will definitely iron it...I have a new-found committment to ironing, I'm in the middle of ironing all my baby clothes at the moment, even the singlets and scratch mittens!

Haha I have got the ironing board out once since DD was born and that was only because DH ran out of shirts to wear to work.

I was a shocker and washed and ironed all of DS's things in those last few days, sheets, blankets, clothes including pj's, socks. blankets. Needless to say I'm not quite as fussy now that he has arrived!
