Hi All, our camera has given up the ghost - its not the first time its had major issues and now only 2 years after getting it I've had enough! So am off to buy a camera tomorrow probably at Harvey Norman, and would love to know your recommendations. I'd like a decent one, I do love to take piccies (especially at my daughters 2nd birthday this weekend - what a time to die mr camera!). I don't mind fiddling with settings to get a great picture - but the option to point and click would be great at times too |

Unless you find it on special, it might cost a bit much, then, but if I was buying a new 'nice' camera I'd go for a Canon G12. It's on;ly just out of that price range (usually $900ish?) and they're amazing cameras. Brilliant if you don't want a full-on DSLR, but want to be able to take 'good' photos. You can use it was a point-and-shoot, too, which is nice for capturing the moment shots.
I have the G9, and love it. I've heard the G11 (which might still be in shops?) is really good too, but from what I hear, avoid the G10, it hasn't had nearly as good reviews.

ETA that it might be a bit late now, but if you can find a G11 on a good special as someone's chucking them out now the G12 is here, I'd say it would be an awesome buy.

If you want one that can go underwater, we have the panasonic FT2 and love it!
Takes great pictures both above and under the water (down to 10m), and does HD video too - awesome.

I spent ages reading reviews before I got my camera. I usually use a canon 50d but wanted a compact point and shoot for the nappy bag.
I am a big canon fan and found that the canon ixus 210 was really well reviewed. Beter than some of the more expensive models. It is really user friendly, has excelent colour balance and the shutter spead lag time is really short which is important when shooting little people that move so fast. I got my one in November and have been really happy with it.

And guess what it even comes in under your budget!

Hee hee thats the G10 that hopes said to avoid!
Thanks so much for your recommendations - a lovely lady I met on here has offered us her spare one for the big day so I have a little more time to make a decision |
