After standing (in stiletto's might I add... tut, tut tut!) for about 40 minutes at a friend's wedding ceremony, I suddenly became dizzy and faint... really faint, and I'm not a fainter! What happened was - I was talking to friends, and my head suddenly felt terrible and I felt hotter while the people I was talking to might as well have been fading away into the distance - I thought I'd vomit, and as I made my way to the nearest seat I suddenly broke out in a clammy sweat ALL OVER, went pale enough for someone to see that they should get my husband, and after a little sit-down he helped me (I was all weak by then) to the toilets, where I very quickly came right again! Bizzare!!

I was only 16 weeks pregnant at the time (hence the gorgeous shoes), and have never ever had dodgy blood pressure in my life. My mum seemed to think that this was just a common ailment of pregnancy when I told her about it, and didn't think I should worry, but it was pretty scary (I mean really, who wants to land cold on the floor at a friend's wedding? talk about unwanted drama!) and I'd hate for it to happen again. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I'll talk it over with my lovely midwife regardless, but it just dawned on me that maybe mum was being, well, mum when she brushed it off as nothing, and I am curious to know why it happened.

Oh you poor thing.
I had no morning sickness and generally the perfect pregnancy with my girl BUT I did have really problems with feeling faint/dizzy and just falling over. For the first few months there was no reason while it was happening... At the end it was because of low blood pressure. Its not very nice tho.

Make sure you are having a bit of sugar throughout the day and drinking lots. Pieces of fruit and muesli bars etc. When your blood sugars drop you can feel dizzy like that.

I had a few dizzy spells when i was pregnant with Blair but none with the twins. When i sat down it came right (after a few minutes) and i remember my midwife telling me that i was noraml can't remember why as it was almost 4 years ago but i don't think its anything to major to worry about, hope it doesn't happen to often for you as its not very nice.

I had spells that were somewhat similar, but they didn't last for too long, and sitting down helped. I have heard that they are common too, and sometimes nothing to do with blood pressure (as mine has always been fine).

I had a couple of spells like that while pregnant with Josiah, usually if I hadn't had anything to eat or drink for a little while.

i've had them on and off with both my pregnancies. (one today in fact in a mall!) and had a couple of complete faints with my frst pregnancy. for me it is caused by low blood pressure, but apparently the only thing i can do for it is take it easy and not do anything strenuous.
hope it gets better for you!

I had two complete faints while I was preg with Maya, and a couple of near misses. I put it down to heat (it was summer) and low blood pressure. I had all the same symptoms you described, one time I was standing in the queque at McDonalds and it was really hot and the girl was taking forever and I literally collapsed on the floor, and the second time I was in the back of the car on the way to New PLymouth and Dad swore the air con was on but it was really hot and I passed out.

Talk to your midwife if you're worried tho - will put your mind at rest.

I used to get faiting spells (not preggo) and it turned out I had low potassium levels.

Also had quite a few dizzy spells and balck outs when I was preggo and that was due to low blood pressure and blood sugar... just make sure you eat little bits regularly to prevent it happening.

When I was working as a libararian I was on my feet a lot and found that made me really dizzy. So use the pregnancy as a big excuse to have someone pull up a chair for ya!

When I was preggaz with Arna (about 15 wks I think I was) our work shifted buildings and the Mayor came and did the official opening - in the middle of his speech I was white / green and sat down on the floor (so rude) - felt like I was going to faint and was nearly there when I decided to be rude and sit down!! Didn't want my mother hen boss ringing an ambo! Anyway it didn't happen again and I am pretty sure it is a preggy thing but like always bring it up with your midwife and see what she says.. My spell was 1st thing in the morning before I had a chance to eat to (had to be at work at 7 and I didn't get up till ten to!)

I had dizzy spells a few times while pregnant and like the others just sat down with a cold glass of water until I felt better most of these times I was at work on my feet all day (I'm a barmaid)

Thanks for the advice and comiserations, guys. I used to think pregnant ladies needed to sit down more because their legs were tired of carrying the extra belly around!! ha ha - now I know a little better! I've started carrying a muesli bar in my handbag so hopefully I don't get caught out again.

I had the same thing on Saturday while out shopping. Luckily there was a chair nearby in the shop. I always have low blood pressure so not sure if it was that or low blood sugar levels. I came right after sitting down for a little while. I went and bought some barley sugars after that though and will keep some in my handbag and some in the car to suck on if I feel a bit faint. It is certainly an awful feeling though!!
