     Topic: Do I offer him more b/m?     Posted: 09 January 2011 at 11:06am |

My 11 month is a bit off colour at the moment with a bit of a fever and a runny nose. Usually he b/f's 3 times a day (morning, afternoon and evening) and has three meals and one or two snacks. However seems to have gone off his solids a bit. Do I increase the amount of times I offer him boobie? Will that confuse him for later on???

Yes definitely. Even my 2.5 year old wants only breastmilk when he's sick. There's lots of great stuff in breastmilk that will help him get over the cold, plus he gets the side effect of lots of cuddles for comfort He'll drop down again when he's ready! Hope that's sooner rather than later, poor little guy

Yep, agree with Weegee. I can often tell how much extra she's been drinking the day that she feels better, cos suddenly I have lovely engorged boobs again - my girl drops off as suddenly as she picked up the extra feeds once she feels better

When Lily went off her solids about 9.5 months she upped her BFs a bit too, esp over night, was a couple of weeks before her first tooth popped up though but if he's not eating much finger foods or spoon fed then I'd def let him bf more. It'll be comforting for him + at least you know he is getting something.

The suckling will also help relieve pressure on his ears. If he gets conjunctivitis, a squirt of bm will be the best medicine for that also. He'll drop down again once he's feeling better and wants to eat again.
