when do these poos kick in? We have had pears yesterday and today and still no poos.

Tom seems pretty happy with this whole solids business. It was mum who was apprehensive. Like you Kels I wanted to wait but after the way he was grabbing the spoon and opening wide today I think we have made the right call.

Italiah, why are you going to hold off on rice etc till 6 months? Is it due to the lack of an enzyme for digestion? I read that babies cant digest starches until they have all their teeth and wonder how many people actually follow that theory.

Yeah my sister (who looks into everything - food & medicine - before giving it to her child), said their stomachs can't digest the rice at that age. So yeah, am going on her advice with that. I used to use the rice to thicken the pureed pears/apples but will do that after 6 months.

But boy, I think giving him solids has made him even more hungry! He still wants to feed afterwards. I thought it would make him hold out longer. Might not be giving him enough solids?

Hey Italiah, Bella was exactly the same...she went from 1 teaspoon once a day for about 3 days then I upped the amount she was having for that one meal and then after a week she was STILL hungry so I started on 2 meals a day and she's still on 2 meals a day but has about 4 ice-cubes for lunch and 5 for dinner. She loves her solids especially her fruit and veges, she didn't like the baby rice so I don't even bother (I mean I tried it and thought it was disgusting ) And she started just before she was 4 months. It would have been nice to hold off but she was so ready. But yeah, the poos are the only draw back . I think the hard poos kicked in about 3-4 days after the solids, Nikki (and it was like a long sausage hehe!!)

Yeah I think I'll up the amount I give to him tomorrow. I obviously give him both sides of b/milk before offering the solids & an hour later when he's due for a sleep he'll still want a FULL feed from one side.

And funny how you describe Bella's first solid poo!. It will be nicer to have a thicker poo, rather than the runny ones that go EVERYWHERE!

Tom still seems really hungry too! Today I fed him at 7am, 8am and then 1/3 can of watties pear at 9am!! So much for one or two teaspoons. He would cry if we were too slow getting it to him

It hasnt helped his sleeping though so maybe he is having YET ANOTHER growth spurt.

He also could've gotten into a pattern of waking in the night maybe? Jett woke last night around 4am, so that was a bonus 3 hours later than what he has been doing. Fingers crossed he'll stretch it out till 6am tomorrow morning.
