Topic: Eww whats in her bottle? Posted: 10 September 2008 at 2:49pm |
OK so lately ive been picking up the odd bottle briahnas chucked away or rolled under the cabinet and it looks like this:

Now i clean her bottles THOROUGHLY in fresh dish water. I scrub them wash them out and sometimes re scrub them, same with the teets, so its nothing like something from the dishwater or anything..
Its never happened before, its only been happening since i moved her onto the heinz nurture toddler milk. Do you think its from the formula? Does this happen to anyone else? Its icky!!

wow another complaint about the formula.....there is a thread on the tm message board about this formula and the changes that have been made...and if i remember correctly the discolouration to the teats and bottles is from the iron in the forumla....someone has taken this to fairgo so will be interesting when that story comes out.
but the upshot seems to be that the new forumula is horrible, and Heinz is just brushing off the complaints etc.
opps sorry to hijack this

I still breastfeed, but because Em is prem I have to give her ferrous syrup (an iron supplement) and a vitamin supplement everyday, which I mix with a bit of breastmilk and give to her with a syringe. The mixture goes an icky borwn colour, and whatever's left in the syringe goes like that too, esp if left on the bench for a day before I wash it. So I would say, at a guess, that it's probably from the mix of the iron and other vitamins in the formula causing the icky brown colour.

wow so im not the only one that has that problem. Cause ive been noticing it lately too. I dont go to the trademe threads (wouldn't know how to lol) but is it harmful to them in anyway? Weve only just bought a new tin.. i assumed it was something to do with our water....

Completely aside from the formula angle, when I was taking the sides off the gremlins cots I found a stray bottle underneath and I can tell you what happens to cows milk when it's left to it's own devices...
It goes fluoro yellow

They look like a colony of bacteria and fungi to me. This is what happens when milk is left to rot, and bacterial and fungal spores in the air get into the bottle and multiplies. They feed off the carbohydrates in the milk.
I remember doing an experiment with milk in a biology paper at university, and the colonies of bacteria and fungi looked like that colour. The colour can vary, depending on the strain of bacteria and fungi.

yes but i clean mine everyday in the evening after tristen has gone to bed and they were looking like that by the end of the day surely thats not right. Funny how this current tin has been ok, ( ive enven got a bottle sitting on my bench thats been there for a couple of days as weve been very busy and it still doesnt have the orange stuff in it) its made in NZ and i got it from my local supermarket rather than pack n save which is where i got the tins that made my bottles go like that picture

Yeha i got a bottle from her cot after a afternoon nap and it was like that so it cant be growing fungus that quickly can it? Briahna only sleeps for an hour or so at a time!
LOL and Emma, ive found a bottle under the seat of my car and for ages before that i was wondering what the terrible smell was... hahha,.
I had to throw the whole bottle away it was SICK! I was gagging and nearly throwing up. It was ORANGE.
Oh yeah, and the Heinz formula i am using, the can is still the same and theres no little pamphlet saying that its changed.
Its the green can. The 3rd one.
