For babies that are fully FF, what did you do during the day on hot days like it has been recently, for thirst/hydration reasons? Did you just give your baby a bottle of water?

MIL was saying about how they used to put rosehip syrup in the water to help babies drink it on hot days, but no chemist or health shop has heard of it (and nor have I!!). I know with breast fed babies they can just feed and have foremilk, which sates their thirst, but of course FF babies can't do this...

Isabella is breast and formula fed, and on really hot days she has her sippy cup with water.

I think its good to get them used to some water, and FF babies definitey need water at this age

I add an extra 5ml of water per scoop of formula (my girl is a wee piggy though and rinks the lot) to help counteract the fluids lost sweating etc in this heat...

I have a Tommy Tippee bottle for water, and offer it more often on hot days. I find if it's lukewarm she more likely to drink it, because it's a similar temperature to her formula.

I've got one of the avent 'magic' cups. I try giving it to DS once or twice a day, every few days. Either he hasn't got the idea of sucking that kind of teat, or he doesn't like the water.

Rosehip syrup is probably the equivalent of rosehip tea + sugar. I've head a lot of my mothers generation trying to say baby likes everything better with sugar. Though I have my doubts that it's a good way to start.

When my DS was around 4 months i gave him water in his normal bottle, just so i could get some in to him... he would never drink too much, but it was something.

Yep, tried water in the normal bottle. At first he'd go for it enthusiastically, two sucks later - he'd figured out it's not the good stuff and that's the end of that
Keep thinking I should try a different bottle type.
Of course, my mum would say - add a bit of juice
