Just curious how early people found out what sex they were having? I know most don't have a scan between 12w and anatomy scan but if you did, were you able to see the sex? I have to have scans every 2 weeks so not a big deal if they can't tell this afternoon when I have one

Had an ultrasound at 12 weeks and 19 weeks (they were very picky with both ultrasounds as I had previously conceived a baby with a chromosome abnormality) with my son (same ultrasound tech) she wouldn't tell me the sex at 12 weeks, although come the 19 week scan where we found out she admitted that she could see at 12 weeks that he was a boy. Was told that they won't tell you early on because the chances of getting it wrong are higher and that they won't tell you until its time for the anatomy scan (18-20 weeks). This was Whangarei Hospital so I'm guessing each place will have their own policy on the matter.

I had one at around that time with Alex. Could definitely tell he was a boy. If they get a really good shot between the legs its possible

I had one at 17 weeks and she asked if we wanted to know but we said no so I assume she could then and I also had a friend find out around then too but they got the gender wrong.

Thanks guys. I had one at 13w5d and he had a look then but couldn't tell for sure as girls bits are still quite swollen then and look a lot like boys. But he did say what he thought it was so maybe we'll find out today if he was right

We got told at 17w that we were having a girl. A scan at just over 19 weeks confirmed that. Although they do say they are only 80% sure. So she could come out with a willy

KH25 that was the issue with my friend. They were told boy but at 20 weeks it was definitely a girl!

At 16 weeks I went to my MW and after trying to find it for about 15 minutes she finally conceded that she couldn't find babies heartbeat and that I would need to get an emergency scan.

So,after finally getting hold of DH he took me and after an agonising wait we finally got to see the baby, and to my immense relief, baby was moving all over the place kicking happily away,my DH asked if the sonographer could see the gender and he smiled and showed us various parts of our little ones appendage.
After awhile he paused and said "and that right there,is your daughter"
I asked if he was sure,he said he was 100% sure and that he never says unless he was certain,it was a line or something that gave it away.
I think I asked him 3 or 4 times (id been hoping for a girl)

At my 20 week scan, was confirmed as a girl again, and when we did the 4D scan.

And when she was born...she was definitely a she.

So if the sonographer is good enough, and your baby is cooperative enough, you can definitely get an accurate answer early on,they just tend not to do it.

Argh the sonographer was a total dumbass who could barely speak English and wasn't at all convinced if she could or couldn't see anything between the legs, plus legs were crossed, so we'll wait another 2 weeks for the next scan and hopefully we get someone halfway decent!!

I'm going to a different place so will definately be a different sonographer! She was so dumb she was saying she couldn't even see my cervix via abdo scan (they are measuring it fornightly) and if I wanted an abdo scan I should have had a full bladder so she had to do dildo cam. I said, well what about the fact that the last 2 times I have had an empty bladder and abdo scan and they have been able to see it fine? I don't think she knew hwat she was doing

hey High9- my friend was told it was a boy at 12 weeks and then found out it was a girl at 20 weeks. They think now that the earlier scan was actually a part of the ambilical cord that was in the way.

I guessed Limochick from here was having a girl at her 12 week scan..and I was right, used the "nub theory" which can be very hit and miss, but hers was a very clear nub.

We were told a girl at 12 weeks (and to be fair the sonographer made it clear that she could only be 80% sure at that early stage) but at 20 weeks it turned out to be a boy. We didn't really care as long as he was healthy, but I felt a bit guilty for referring to him as a her for the eight weeks in between. Doesn't appear to have caused a gender identity crisis :)
