Topic: Finishing Work Posted: 20 June 2006 at 3:46pm |
Hey ladies,
This topic may have already been discussed before but thought I would bring it up again when are most people finishing up work and how much time will you be taking off for maternity leave? I am planning to finish at 34 weeks and have 12 months off but will see what happens

I finished at 34 weeks. I think I will finish earlier next time. But i'm on my feet all day at work, and do lots of lifting etc (I'm a chef). I went back to work part time, about 8 hrs week, when Alex was about 3 months old.

I finished work at 38 weeks, but 2 weeks late having Joshie. I have no idea how long I will be off work - hopefully a year, mebbe longer. Just have to see how finances hold out. Although, we've planned to win Big Wednesday this week, so if that comes through then I'll NEVER be going back.... Mwahahahaha

I was planning to work up to 38 weeks (June 24th I think it was), but then changed my mind as my energy levels were plummeting and I was quite simply fed up ! So finished a week and a half ago at 36 weeks, and it's been good, 99% of the house is meticulously organised and the other 1% can wait a while LOL The "extra" two weeks between me actually finishing at 36 weeks instead of 38 weeks was covered by some paid annual leave I still had owing to me, so the dates for my maternity leave didn't have to be changed. The plan is for me to take just the standard 14 weeks, and then go back part time for 3 - 4 months (15 hours a week) and see what happens from there. We also still have the option of me resigning completely and taking a whole year off if it works better, but will have to wait and see.

I also am a chef and finished when I was 7 months, I might of been able to last longer but being on my feet all day and doing some 10 hour shifts made it hard!
I returned to work after 6 months and am doing 50+ hours a week!
I am currently pregnant again and am looking at finishing about 7-8 months again

I finished work at 38 weeks and Arna was born a week later (induced from Toxemia) so didn't get much of a break at all!! (and were moving house!)
we are TTC #2 and I will be working on the farm this year with David so I can stop when I get too tired which is good!!
I don't think I could've finished work any earlier - I love working and hate being at home all the time so wanted to keep working!! Ohhhh well... My job is 24/7 now!!

I am planning to finish in week 36 - 24 days before my due date. But I am noticing the closer I get the more tired I am starting to feel - so I hope I last that long!

Thanks girls.
I will see how I feel and may decide to work a little closer to due date - depending on how I feel. I am really going to miss that pay packet and have started putting money away so I can buy myself the odd little treat

I thought that as I had been so well throughout my whole pregnancy and that because first babies are known for being late that I could work right up until my due date . As the months went by I realised that was a tad unrealistic as the bigger you get the more tired (and ratty) you get, I've now changed my leave to start from 38 weeks (Next Friday YAY!!!!!), I'll then take the 14 weeks totally off, then back to work 3 days a week whilst Mum looks after bubs. That will take us up to Christmas and we'll see how long the finances can hold out with me working part-time.

I am planning on working untill 37 1/2weeks as I thought first babies were often late and I have been well and I only work 22 hours a week anyway. Although I have annual leave whoch I can use if I need to leave earlier. Rol on maternity leave!

I plan to work up until just over 37 weeks then have the year off. My boss has already said that I may come back part time just not sure on the hours so heres hoping. I do like my job but also want to spend time with baby like I did with my other two. Josh I didn't work so n/a and brooke I went and studied when she was a year and half part time, needed to do something. I can't see myself staying at home and thats why part time will suit me better - its not for the money as DH gets a good wage and we can live on this happily, just me I need to be doing something with 'adults'

I finished work this week (ahhhh HALLELUJAH!!!) and finish the voluntary thing I do at the end of this school term. I'm only 25 weeks along, but as I have M.E, I wasn't able to work much at all anyways - just an afternoon a week and a morning a week elsewhere, so we'd adjusted to living on one income quite a while ago. Now to adjust to the extra person to feed and clothe!! It's funny, but I'm going to be much busier after baby's arrival than I was when working! Go figure.
I'll look at picking up some very part-time work when the time feels right - when I've got the energy for it and feel it'd be good for me and our family. I have no idea when that'll be!! But do know I won't be returning to super-stressful jobs.

I finished at 35 weeks. I had reduced my hours to abut 32 per week from the start, so that helped. hindsight, as i was on my feet all day, I would have liked to have finished bit earlier, as I was soooooooooo tired, i could hardly speak by then. I had taken a year off, but my boss ranf mr just before JJ was 6 months and offered me a mon to fri, no stats no weekends morning job temp over xmas, and If I liked it, the job was mine, if not, back on maternity leave. I was getting a bit "housebound" by then, so i took it, and haven't looked back. This time, I will finish at christmas, Dec 22, and baby is due 1st feb. Jake was a week early, sp that may happen again. I work in an air con. office, so am not too worried about the tired thing this time... Once again, i will take about a year off, and see what happens.

I am finishing on the 18th August which I think will be about 37 weeks? I am definitely having the paid 14 weeks off...then hopefully a few more using our savings. Maybe will come back to work 16 hours a week but really hoping Mark gets a nice payrise so I dont have to bother and can stay at home and maybe look after another little one or do something at home to make a few extra $!!
All depends on finances I guess mostly!
