I think there should be even less days available for sale, a ridiculous price to purchase, and bylaws saying no setting off before 6pm, and not after 10pm. and you have to have a permit to set them off on other days of the year.
I f*cken hate the things. The bangs scare me sh*tless, and yes i may do shooting as a sport but after having my dipsh*t drunk brother and his friends play with fireworks and shoot me in the hip with one, and then shoot me with a metal ball bearing from a BB gun in my other hip i DO NOT like the stupid things. The bang scares me

Not really a fan of backyard fireworks, especially when we had people down our street setting them off at 2.30am the other morning and from 10.30pm until midnight last night!! Up until 10.30pm is a pretty reasonable time but after that I think is inconsiderate.
We won't be having them at home, even when DS gets older. One of our dogs is pettrefied (sp?) of them and I know that most people are safe with them but I hate hearing the stories of what some people do to animals with fireworks!

We had an awesome display last night. The neighbourhood all pooled our fireworks and had two responsible guys lighting them whilst the mums supervised the kids with sparklers. We were all in bed by 11pm so fireworks over with by 10-10.30. Not many going off after that either.
I hate that there have been incidents with animals too. But really they are so rare and out of the top 20 most horrific animal cases with the spca I don't think there were any fireworks ones. People are cruel no matter what. Banning fireworks won't stop that. We banned smacking but that hasn't stopped child abuse.
As with anything there are a few people that cause issues. It is a shame but it happens.

Late night again, fireworks in neighbourhood eventually stopped around 1am, mostly because it started raining, fine day today so tonight may not be a sleep-filled night either. Driving home from city last night some idiots were standing near/under bridge with fireworks & as I drove over it, around 9.30pm, bright white lights went all over bridge, 100km zone (SH3 New Plymouth), I couldn't see a thing & nearly sh*t myself/crashed, =(. Your neighbourhood sounds great Kiwi2, I'm jealous!

I have to say, after going the big public fireworks dispaly in Wellington last night, as great as they were, I would much prefer the backyard ones. The amount of drunk teenagers around, the crazy traffic... nightmare.
I love the fireworks, I still get excited running around the house trying to catch all the neighbours fireworks with the girls.
I hate the drunken teenagers, and mixing them with fireworks is not a good combination. But I still love fireworks.
