Topic: First Appt - What to expect? Posted: 12 May 2006 at 10:21am |
Hi,
I have my first appointment with Obstetrician today and don't know what to expect, can anyone enlighten me?
I am just a little over 7 weeks so early days. Seeing it took us over 18 months to conceive i was wanting to ask for a scan to make sure all is ok, is it too early for this, will we see anything?

If they do do a scan, you should see a "sac" that the baby is in, and possibly the heartbeat. You won't see much detail, but you will see something.

sorry I have a midwife not a specialist so i dont know about that, but at my first appt she asked me about my medical history, took my blood pressure, did some blood tests jsut to make sure hormone levels were climbin and basically jsut gave me some info to take home and read - it's more of an information gathering meeting than anythin else i think?

At least with seeing the 'sac' i'll know something is there. some days i don't feel that pregnant, then theres those where i can't get through the day without feeling queazy - especially when cooking dinner.

I'm going through a doctor not a midwife or obstetrician so may not be much help either.
We went through my medical history and worked out dates. Had blood tests booked, check blood pressure and weight and went over the essiential info I had to know..diet etc. I got booked in for a scan at 6 weeks and we saw the sac and the heartbeat.

I had my first OB visit on Monday, but that is a bit different again because I have a midwife as LMC and teh Ob is just providing cover because there are twins.
he basically just went thru a list of things that can go wrong (lovely!), took my BP, made me pee on a stick to check for protein and sugar, weighed me, and did a quick scan to check the babies. Plus went over my medical history and stuff.
I had a scan at 6w0d with the twins and we saw the sac and a heartbeat (only one at that stage).

Well i have had my first visit at the OB, all went well. Took down my medical history as you have all said and we managed to get an ultrasound (one of the probe ones), we got to see the sac, which was great, but no heart beat yet. The OB was fairly upbeat about that and said it could be due to me not being as far along as we'd thought - late ovualation possibly...
Anyway have had blood test for HCG levels and need them again next week, then go for second scan on 26th. Staying positive about it all.
thanks for all the advice.
